Thread: The Coronado's Quest thread

  1. #1

    The Coronado's Quest thread

I know he has a couple of fans besides me on this board so I thought I'd make a thread for him. I was just reading the Smarty and War Emblem threads and decided my favourite boy should have one too. I will probably only post about his grandsons and granddaughters since that would be easiest for me. But this is a thread for anything about CQ (obviously), so if anyone has anything to add please feel free to do so.

Anyways, I'm going to start with August 15 and I'll probably just post workouts, race entries and race results once a day or so (along with a comment if I happen to have one). I'll also post various other things (names/name changes, sales/sale results etc) when I have time.

    Re: The Coronado's Quest thread

I'll join the fan club. I loved that horse. I was lucky enough to see him at Claiborne not long before he left for Japan. Television didn't do him justice. He was absolutely gorgeous in person. Very well behaved, too. I asked my guide about the difference in his behavio on and off the track. He said CQ was like the bratty kid who misbehaves in public because he knows his parents (or in this case Shug) won't scold him in front of other people.

I do think you should include the lovely and (hopefully) very talented Baby Nail in this thread, since he's Coronado' Quest's last foal. I hope poster Tachyon will keep us updated on his career.

    Re: The Coronado's Quest thread

Three runners you might want to keep an eye on--all out of CQ mares--are G1 winners Kodiak Kowboy and Mani Bhavin, and G3 winner Grand Adventure.

    Re: The Coronado's Quest thread

WOOO CQ! I am obviously a fan :P Hopefully our Japanese friends will post updates about Baby Nail, the last foal of Coronado's Quest. I know T Harry is still racing, he was in the Claiming Crown at Canterbury the last weekend in July.

I can't wait for Society Selection's foal to race! Is Gossip Gal even in the United States?

I wish I could have seen him in person. That must have been awesome. I have heard that he was a lot better behaved at Claiborne than he was at the track. He was such a brat then wasn't he? Especially in Florida.

Hopefully tachyon and uma_nosuke will notice this thread and chime in with updates now and then on both Baby Nail and other CQ babies in Japan (like his talented son Eishin Tiger, he was so close to getting that graded stakes win last time out).

Yep! Kowboy should do well in Forego, which is where he is running next. Seven furlongs is his distance after all. Mani...I'm not sure what is up with her. She looked so good until they tried her on synthetics. She just hasn't been even close to the same since, finishing last in each subsequent start. Grand Adventure hasn't raced since the Breeder's Cup last year, but he did recently start working again.

T Harry is still running? I'm going to have to make sure he is still in my VS because I haven't been getting anything about him recently.

Yep, she is. She worked at Saratoga a couple weeks ago, 4f in 49:80.

And here is another of today's workouts that didn't show up earlier for some reason:

Souped Up! I wonder if he'll ever start.

August 22 & 23 update. And yeah, I decided to add a couple comments to some of them. Just because I'm bored at the moment. XD

Comment: Yay, he's back. I had high expectations for this boy before his first start. He was working really well, but didn't run like it. Then he kinda fell off the radar.

Comment: His sire is the best horse his dam has been bred to (the other three foals she has are by Mr. Broad Blade and Terrell), yet she has had arguably the most success of any of CQ's daughters. Her other two racing age foals (Dirty Dish Mitch and Justdontcallmejeri) are stakes placed winners.

Comments: Looks like Pletcher has started to give up on this guy. He broke his maiden on Derby day at huge odds (for a first time starter trained by Pletcher at least) then finished unplaced in his next two.

This filly is pure win because shes sired by RH10 and out of a CQ mare haha. I love them both so I am hoping for big things from her.

I remember Vasquez from SFF's Matron, or Frizette. She set wicked fractions, faded badly. Don't think she ran at three, if my memory serves me right.
