Lovely to see these pics of the old man. He lived a good, long life but still so nice to see these pics.

I saw John Henry the first year he was at the horse park, back in 1986. I saw him many times after that, he was quite a character.

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit John in September '07 shortly before he died. Here's a slideshow of my visit:

I also got to see him work out and race back in the day, so I was very happy to see him again, he was quite an extraordinary fellow.
Thanks for sharing, JD ... he was a handsome guy even in his old age !!
Great to see all these pics of the much beloved John Henry. We've got '86, '05, &
07 covered now. Would be interesting to gather pics of him from each year available & do a slide show to watch the changes over time.
JD,
That slideshow is wonderful, Thanks for sharing it with us.
Most of mine are from when he ran plus a few from visits to the Horse Park. But they aren't online any more ... at least not until I reload my John album.
You're welcome all! I wish I could find my old slides. I have some of him at Santa Anita back in the day. I keep saying that everytime the subject of pix of John Henry comes up, I've gotta find 'em! I've got some video of the walk too... I feel very lucky to have seen him again before he passed.
Thanks JD. I loved his eyes . Even as he aged he still had a spark in his eyes. I often wondered what he was thinking.
Here's a picture I took at Kentucky Horse Park about a year before he passed away. :sad

I loved his eyes. Even as he got old he had a twinkle in his eyes that always told me you are looking at greatness.
I hope the other horses at the park knew how great he was!
Thanks to all of you for sharing pics of my very favorite fella. Will soon be two years since his death.
Sure do miss those wonderful John Henry stories! What a character!![]()

Just curious why the other shots were deleted by Admin. Were they someone else's photos? What was the problem?
I don't want to load photos and have them deleted so want to make sure I'm following the rules.
Thanks to all for sharing their John Henry photos. So many loved this horse...
I don't know why admin deleted my photos. They are my original photos, & I thought the files were small enough & met forum posting standards. Not complaining, just puzzled.
35 Black, that's a wonderful JH pic. So glad I got to see this one.
Looks like JH is wondering why you good folks didn't bring him a chocolate donut.![]()
