Re: Royal Ascot 2019

Rain has softened the course...and probably ruined a few fine frocks.
Can you imagine spending a bunch of money for a fancy suit or dress, and then having to either get soaked or cover up with a homely plastic poncho?
Does anyone know what the weather forecast is for the next couple of days?

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

The Coventry goes to Arizona, a big, handsome son of No Nay Never. I think I heard this was Aiden O'Brien's 9th victory in this race. The dark brown colt seemed a little lazy in the first half of the race, but came with a strong charge in the last furlong. Love the fact that he runs in what looks li...

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

Lord Glitters, last year's runner-up, wins the Queen Anne by a nose over Beat the Bank. Last year's winner, Accidental Agent, just stood in his stall and didn't move a foot.

Royal Ascot 2019

I'm up before dawn, so I thought I'd start a watch-along thread for this year's Royal Meet. Queen Anne goes off at 6:30 AM Pacific time. Royal Procession starts in a few minutes.

Re: Affirmed Stakes GRIII

Roadster has never looked like a robust colt, appearing much more slender in build than stablemates like Game Winner. He may be hard to keep fit and still keep weight on him.

Re: 2019 Fillies + Mares

How many 10 furlongs stakes races are there for the distaffers?
Isn't there a race at Delaware (Delaware Handicap?) that we've seen mares like Blind Luck win?

I wonder if this nice field will help help the 'Foster get its G1 rating back.

Re: Birding?

All the rain we had during the winter in SoCal has created an especially fertile spring for the local birds. We had a pair of finches nest in a knothole in the house by the front walk, and another finch pair is working hard raising their second brood ( FOUR hungry mouths! ) on our back porch. Also h...

Sorry for his connections, and it feels even more tragic since we lost PotN this year. The loss of any of his offspring now feels doubly sad.

If you're trying to look him up on various sites, you probably want to lose that extra 'h' at the end of the name. :P ;)

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Will the media show up for such a positive display of love for the horses...or do they just show up when there's a death or chance of an injury on live TV?

Gustav Klimt looks like he has a horse's head and neck on a pony's body.
Australia has filled out nicely.

"I also think it’s important that people realize that the initial rash of deaths and the deaths now are two separate things." I agree with Ms. Terrell. Many ( if not most ) of the deaths that occurred earlier could be reasonably traced to the numerous times the track was sealed...without being harr...

Marconi closed out the big day with a win in the 12-furlong Brooklyn. https://www.paulickreport.com/news/thoroughbred-racing/marconi-leads-all-the-way-in-brooklyn-invitational/ Considering Marconi, Tacitus ( 2nd in Belmont ) and all the Belmont winners by him, it looks like Tapit has turned out to ...

Re: Belmont Stakes Race Day Card

I'm so happy that the late, great Giant's Causeway left us with such a good son from late in his stallion career. I know B&M is a bay, but there's something about his face and the way he runs that reminds me a lot of his sire. There may be a few top 3yos missing ( like Max' and 'House ), but I agree...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I kind of blame whoever was responsible for putting a mare in heat just down the aisle from that horse. It's not the stallion's fault that he was put into "I got to breed' mindset, with all those hormones overwhelming any sort of training he might have had.

Need to rename the track FAST Sandy. :P We could easily see a new stakes record in the Belmont.
Not sure what the rider on Serengeti Empress was thinking...43 and change for the first half mile? No surprise she couldn't hang on.

Tessa, that was the first thing that occurred to me, as well. The use of bisphosphonates in humans has been linked to unusual bone weakening/breaks, so it seems like that could be at play here.
