Re: Baffert's Most Talented Trainee

O'Brien was allowed to keep Highland Reel in training through the end of his 5th year, and that horse ran...and won...all over the world. Huge fan. Another high-class horse from that 2012 crop was Found . She won the BC Turf as a three-year-old and the Arc the next year. Both horses are high on my '...

Re: 2019 derby prep races.

Dang...that was impressive. He has a beautiful stride and quite a stretch kick.
I look forward to seeing what this Scat Daddy can do on dirt.

Re: Winx

Thank you for the links, SparrowCastle & Flanders. Winx is so good, I've run out of superlatives for that her. :o
I don't mind Candace Hare. She knows her stuff when it comes to international racing, so I appreciate that. And she doesn't come close to being my least-favorite TVG host. :P

Re: Winx

It's times like this that not having TVG really sucks. I love watching that mare kick in her afterburners.
And by the time I once again have my own TV/satellite service, I think Winx is going to be retired. :(
Phooey.
Maybe one of the racing sites will have a replay I can watch on my computer.

Re: 2019 Hall of Fame Finalists

Maybe I'm biased, as I was a fan of all those horses, but I'd vote in all five of them. :D
Of the humans, I suppose Perret has waited long enough; it may finally be his time.

Re: Baffert's Most Talented Trainee

IMHO, AP was the whole package: Fast while still capable of running more than a mile, sound, great conformation and with the sort of temperament that you almost never see. Smart but tractable, kind around people but a fierce competitor on the track.

It sort of looks like he/she has a roached mane. :?

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

Form a Dream is gorgeous! Ebby was a beautiful mare, and I hope her offspring can realize the potential that she had shown before that gate debacle in NY (can't remember the name of the stakes race).

Re: NYRA adds New 3yo Turf Triples

Shortened to a mile!? Why?
Changing from ten-furlongs to eight turns that into an entirely different sort of race. Did Arlington have pressure from connections, both home and abroad, to change the Secretariat from a classic middle distance to one that will appeal more to milers? :?

Re: Older Horses - 2019

Also returning is last year's Tampa Bay Derby winner Quip, as well as Flameaway (runner-up in last year's Bluegrass, Jim Dandy and Tampa Bay Derby).

So, we're going to get to see at least ONE son of Scat Daddy race on as a four-year-old. ;)

Re: New Conformation Photos

I always thought Iron Fist was attractive, but I didn't realize what an Arabian look his head has. Very wedge, with a small muzzle. Mean Season is pretty (and very shiny), but those front feet... :? Long toes with very short heels. IIRC, his racing career was cut short, and I wonder if his maybe-not...

jayemmess has a bunch of good names; kudos to whoever comes up with them.
This is my favorite, though: TAKE CHARGE PATTI (WILL TAKE CHARGE-LA BELLE)
Can't go wrong with an homage to Patti La Belle. :D

I hope Everfast wins the Kentucky Derby. Winstar deserves to suffer really painful seller's remorse for selling off Take Charge Indy in about a split second.

Gunmetal Gray's left front hoof following the Robert B Lewis

Damn, that's ugly.
The fact that he closed for second speaks to his fortitude, but I wonder if the injury is bad enough to kick the grey colt off the Derby trail until that heel heals.

Re: 2019 San Pasqual, Robert B. Lewis Watchalong

For the last couple of hours, we've had gale-force wind and heavy rain. Got a "Flash Flood Warning" until 1 PM on my phone from the NWS. I'm at the western end of LA County, but I think this storm may be moving north and east. I would not want to race in these conditions, and I wouldn't be shocked i...
