Re: The Melbourne Cup (G1)

It hasn't rained on Cup day for at least 15 years but this is looking pretty bad Hot and sunny 35° in Sydney right now I was out & about around 7.30 this morning and that was some of the heaviest rain I've driven through in years in Melbourne. It's been pissing down. It appears the last of the heav...

Re: Best race calls ever

Interested to think what people outside of Aus & NZ think of this race the 1986 Cox Plate. A bit of background: In 1985/86 Bonecrusher (white and brown colours) became the first horse ever to win both the New Zealand Derby and the Australian Derby. Our Waverley Star (green and yellow) was the up an...

Re: Winx

I have lots of confidence in Winx, not as much in Hugh. Glad they got it done. Wasn't his smartest effort but she got him out of strife. Any other horse & maybe any other track you might have been worried. But that was never in doubt. In terms of TV coverage it was live on 2 free to air channels. I...

Re: Proposed Saudi Race could rival Pegasus riches

Many fans, myself included, have wanted to see a lucrative series for older horses that would rival the sophomores' Triple Crown. Could that be happening? :o It would be nice if those responsible for these three different meetings could cooperate to place their races a perfect number of weeks apart...

Coolmore must be thrilled.

That's just.... blaaaah. I don't get why they changed their mind, unless they have the feeling that she's lost a step and isn't 100%. It's possible, she gets older. If I think - as an owner - that I wouldn't do my horse any favors sending it over to run only 3rd, cause it's not in top form, then I ...

Re: Winx

Winx's rider, Hugh Bowman, was thrown in the stretch io the Toddman Stakes for 2yo at Randwick. His mount was making a run coming down the stretch when he suddenly...and I mean right NOW ...shied to the left by four to six paths. Hugh was thrown like LeBron spiked him, and it's possible that he end...

Re: Winx

There was a stat floating around somewhere that Winx has beaten 52 individual Group/Grade 1 winners in her 26 victories. Seems pretty impressive to me! ETA: Found a tweet referring to it: Candice Hare @CandiceHare_ Mind-blowing stat ahead of Winx's return in the G1 Chipping Norton: in her 26 victor...

Re: Racing on the African continent?

Wow, info on African racing is very hard to find on the net. I recall seeing two pieces on a local racing TV show. One was on Horse Chestnut who was a South African champion winning 10 of 11 starts including the South African Triple Crown (so - there must be one). From what I recall of the footage h...

Re: Winx

Never did I ever think I'd even see Black Caviar's record broken. I've seen every win by this amazing mare, and I cannot honestly think other than the '16 Cox Plate, a race won by such EASE. Went from zero to 90 in three seconds. The acceleration is ridiculous. She is crazy. What can you say? What ...

Give this a crack.

Ugly, crowded home page but they stream live racing & trials. There's a fair bit of other info & Saturday's meeting at Randwick should provide a good day's racing. Good luck

Hard to see this being anything other than a Winx benefit. A couple of these would need another lap just to get warmed up. The mare getting beat here would be the biggest upset since Ajax

Oh thank you, Saintly. That's exactly the information I've been trying to find. I've added to my list of strategies " There's a 28-day mandatory waiting period for a first-time application. If the Permit to Acquire is granted, it is valid for 90 days. ". That very well could impact the number of gu...

Knock yourself out mate. But I'd suggest your time might be better spent pondering the issue of American children being slaughtered by fellow Americans and what might be done to prevent recurrences. It started out a voluntary buy back campaign, but when the government didn't get the number of guns they were after, the buy back became MANDATORY. The Australian government had the names of everyone who owned a gun and what guns they owned. It was like taking candy away from a baby. Perfectly inno...

Re: The VENT Thread

Australia didn't institute gun control. They instituted gun confiscation. It's not going to happen in the USA. So, so wrong. In amongst a raft of gun control laws adopted by the states, the National Firearms Agreement of 1996 categorised firearms and assigned differing levels of control per categor...
