Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

I have no idea what to make of this crop so far. I thought the 2yo last year were absolutely terrible with some rare exceptions (notably Game Winner), but our current 3yo could be anything at that stage. I like Maximum Security and Tacitus the most, but it's just a feeling, not a conviction that the...

Re: No Whip Friday @ Santa Anita

I'm a bit confused here because people seem to conflate two different things: the "no-whip day", implemented by the Jockey's Guild (and not, as far as I know, by Santa Anita), and the whip restrictions that will be implemented at Santa Anita and Golden Gate in the future. I understand why people are...

Re: The Derby Points System and the Decline of the American 2yo: A Statistical Analysis

The Road to the Kentucky Oaks, on the other hand... does anyone care about which fillies get the points? After Serengetti Empress's poor showing, IMO everyone is chasing 'Yesterday. ;) :D :D By the way, just to be clear, I wasn't saying that I don't care about the fillies. In fact, this year I care...

Re: The Derby Points System and the Decline of the American 2yo: A Statistical Analysis

My biggest question around the Derby contenders making fewer starts in this point system era has been are they starting training later in their two year old years or are their races spaced out more with multiple works in between. It seems to me that regular workouts would contribute to bone-buildin...

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

I'm going to get screeched at. 2 year olds need racing. The bone remodeling done at 2 helps prevent the sesamoid fractures we see at 3. Personally, I'd rather see a bucked shin than both sesamoids exploded when I look at an xray, but to each his own. Then you have the bisphosphonates. By all means....

The story of Glorious Empire (G2 Bowling Green/G1 Sword Dancer), appropriate training, and Lasix: http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/taking-stock-from-retired-bleeder-to-grade-i-winner/ The article says Glorious Empire bled through Lasix twice. Appropriate training and the hyperbaric chamber sess...

Re: The Rebel Parts I and II

I'll add those two to the long list of races this year which leaves me baffled. I don't know what to make of it. And the races were so similar: fractions, final time, lot of movements in the backstretch and a stretch battle... On the plus side it's the first Triple Crown Trail stage that brought me ...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Tessablue and Dusty, I've heard that theory from quite a few people now. Yet, it seems so crazy that TSG would say they're delaying opening the track for racing because they can't reach agreement with the horsemen's groups over that single issue, if indeed that'is the real reason for the delay. How...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Hello, looong time lurker here. With all that mess at Santa Anita I finally decided to post. Does anyone have an idea how many horses are currently stabled there? I'm wondering if it would be at all possible to scan those horses for signs of any microfractures or something, so that at least those wh...
