Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

I'm really confused. What stolen funds? No where in that letter does it say anything about taking money out of the pool. Refusing to refund the earlier pools is tantamount to theft in my eyes. Imagine if a track switched a race from turf to dirt at post time, but didn't let anyone cancel or change ...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

CDI blatantly stealing from its customers would be a national outrage in simpler times. It's simply disgusting. I don't have all that much money in the future wager- mostly a few crazy exacta boxes- but everyone should be boycotting the future pools until the stolen funds are returned. Good to see a...

Re: Secretariat at 50...

Oh, were they still practicing declarations in the 40's? I didn't know that, that's really interesting! It didn't really come through in what I was reading, seems there would have been a lot of arguments about that race if internet forums had existed back then. Certainly interesting to note how the ...

Re: Secretariat at 50...

You truly become a legend when yours is a household name. Have any other horses reached that pinnacle? Possibly, Seabiscuit. Was Seabiscuit really the transcendent legend that the movie made him out to be? I was 18 when Secretariat won the Triple Crown and I'm pretty sure I knew that Man O' War had...

Re: Day 2

Spent the morning convincing my co-professors that it isn't "complaining" to point out to the higher-ups that we are constantly burned out and it isn't appropriate of them to keep throwing extra work at us. Wrote an angry email to the person I think might be my boss (it's complicated), considered qu...

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

Hoo boy! Bet the place had to undergo a deep, deep, deep cleaning before taking on its new role. Long before COVID-19, I always was afraid I'd be coming down with something after hanging out with the phlegmy, coughing simulcast crowd at Suffolk! Seriously, that's good news and I too am glad to see ...

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

It's not like SA was the only track to close. Coastal cities are getting slammed first, and all it will take is one positive to close other tracks. I would be surprised if there's racing anywhere a month from now. In related news, Suffolk Downs has been turned into a first-responders-only testing fa...

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

I mean, Shackleford was 60-1 in the Florida Derby. Looks like the race came back quick but not spectacular. Looking more at the splits, I would have liked to see a bit of a faster finish, but it's hard to judge how much he had left and he has not looked threatened at all this year. I just think Tiz ...

Re: Day 2

Today was nice. Had a lovely time handicapping Gulfstream and talking about it with everyone- nothing lke a bunch of bad beats to remind you why you love this game :D A lot of really nice horses ran today, and most importantly they all came home safe. If that's our last big day for a while, it was a...

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Fair enough, I'm interested in seeing how fast it comes back. The longshot is a bit concerning but may have benefited from that wide mess on the first turn. Gov hit some trouble early from what I recall; I don't think he's a worldbeater but he's got some nice things ahead. Mostly I just love the way...

Not sure if the track changed, but final time was quicker than the older horses earlier.

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

He's just magnificent. The May Derby would have run straight through him. Hope he's around to try it in September. Proud of Gov too for still trying hard late. That slow-pace filly race will haunt me forever, but it was a wonderful day of racing. Thanks all for sharing in it. Let's keep talking abou...

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Adore Tiz the Law, Gouverneur Morris, and Ete Indien. Nothing crazy here- just Tiz on top and Candy Tycoon as a longshot.

So many gorgeous colts in here!

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Any chance it'll pay out to 5 of 6? I'm asking for a friend...

Wait not Gulfstream please don't take him down!

Edit: phew. What a final furlong for that guy! He was nowhere early.

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Yeah Current ran fantastic, he's gorgeous too. Love that flaxen mane! Wish the rider had been a little more patient on Zulu, but maybe he wasn't expecting such a quick response on the turn.

Next up: didn't even really handicap it, just a bit fan of Somebeyay, English Bee, and Social Paranoia.

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Had Bemma's Boy but oh man that would have been a LOT nicer if Zulu had held on, bit of a gut punch. I'm so proud of Zulu though, he was so game after that wide trip.

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

The pace project for the Pan Am might be one of the funniest racing things I've seen. Here are the Timeform early pace figs for each contestant: 42, 36, 56, 54, 43, 46, 97 (a huge longshot), 31, 10. Who do you like? I'm assuming Channel Cat goes out there, maybe Bemma's Boy. Not sure it sets up for ...

Dream Marie is also my price play here now. Not much reason to go against the top two, but Marie at 20-1 is pretty wild.

Mean Mary is a VERY nice mare! That was a legitimate effort. Happy for her!
