Re: CHRB Memo To The Ca. Governor

Jockeys that violate the riding crop rule will be subject to a maximum fine of $1,000 and a three-day suspension. Which means, if I'm in a G1 and I'm a jockey, the crop rule doesn't mean anything to me compared to 10% of the winners purse (unless I have some other nice stake rides lined up within t...

Re: Aqueduct turf racing leads to bigger handle

The weather was the key. It's not that there weren't many rainy days this fall. There were a normal number, but a lot of them came on days when the track had no live racing scheduled. Adding up the numbers in the story, 86 turf races were carded this year, 82 in 2018 -- but this year also had three...

Aqueduct turf racing leads to bigger handle

https://www.drf.com/news/aqueduct-fall-meet-handle-dramatically-additional-turf-racing-boosts-field-size Stumbled across this. Was that the exception to the rule, because of the weather, or are they generally carding more turf races? I get it though, turf racing with bigger fields equals more betting.

Re: O'Neill to debut string in Dubai

Nice story from earlier this year on the guy actually making the move. https://www.santaanita.com/press-releases/living-the-american-dream-top-oneill-assistant-leandro-mora-celebrating-42-years-in-the-southern-california-racing-industry/#.XfKUrOhKjIU Loved the story! Re: Stormy Liberal gets trainer switch

The owner has responded (from horseracingnation) "Peter Miller never mentioned retirement of the horse until Monday after he was informed the horse was being removed from his barn that afternoon and in fact, it was my understanding that he was trying to run him at Del Mar just last week except the ...

Re: Stormy Liberal gets trainer switch

It would be nice to think somebody actually CARES about the actual horse. This could be Miller caring more about Miller (his own reputation) than the horse, who knows. Well he and the vet advised for the horse to be retired. Keep in mind Stormy Liberal is 8. And even if Miller cares about his own r...

Re: Stormy Liberal gets trainer switch

Well, if you have a clause in a contract that states that if one partnership wants to retire/sell the horse, the other half can refuse and buy them out, that's it. If Bernsen thinks he can get him back to top shape physically, with a different trainer... good luck. (IMO that horse has done enough fo...

Re: CHRB Memo To The Ca. Governor

I'd limit the whip somewhat to 3 to 5 hits, that's sensible enough. Perfect middle ground to give every horse the best chance without getting beaten into oblivion. I did suggest to get rid of the whip as a gimmick for the public (apart from safety reasons), but it's just that... a gimmick for the pu...

Re: Stallion temperament or personality

Although not current, Storm Cats had the reputation to be high strung and difficult to deal with. Not true at all. Personally I found Secretariats offspring horrible to be around. I only have a small sample size, since I'm from Europe though. If we compare it with dogs, of course you won't get a cou...

Spun to Run looks amazing. :D (ya I know, useless post, but he just looks like a million bucks) Other observation is that Max looks a tiiiny bit stiff in the hind.

Re: The Cigar Mile

Spun To Run had 2 fast works (Trainer said he's getting more aggressive), so I hope that he gives Maximum Security a race early on (they also are starting right next to each other). Maybe Whitmore can pick up the pieces (if he gets the distance). I'm not betting this race, cause too many ifs and but...

Re: Go East Old Man

So basically they just wanna ensure to have a certain "quality" of horses in the gate. Gottcha! (This is totally foreign for me, because here it's the norm to have races for all kinds of horses from 3k up to the G1. Hence my silly question.) From a betting point of view, I don't care if a race has G...

Re: Go East Old Man

Interesting sidenote......."they" voted for a $10,000 minimum on claimers. I don't get that to be honest. What good does that do? To "ensure" a certain quality of the races? I've seen many exciting low level races in my lifetime and many boring G1s. If it's to protect horses, I call BS on that one....

Re: He Was A Horse That Never Won A Race. So Why Would Someone Steal Him?

Thanks for sharing! Guess the truth is somewhat in the middle there, over protective "trainer" and maybe owners starting to pressure her a bit, cause they finally wanted to see results. 100k in legal fees... could have bought a real nice horse for that money.

Re: Favorite Photos of Race Horses

The Aga Khan's Zarkava.........check out her "span".....this is why she was said to have wings. She retired undefeated, and when she won the Arc, she was the first filly to win the Arc in 15 years (since Urban Sea in 1993.) Timeform gave her a 133, 1point less than Curlin, who was rated top horse o...

Re: Maryland Racing Commission - A Good Blueprint...

@Stark: ideally the horses  @Catalina: the trainers know very well about Bute and what it does and why they use it, they don't need a re-education. ;) I'm not suggesting anything, because I don't know about the politics behind it. I get the trainers, they want the track to take some responsibil...

Re: Maryland Racing Commission - A Good Blueprint...

I read what the trainers had to say about these rules. You would think that horses will bleed all over the place, just because they moved the use of Lasix an hour back. I was wondering how those guys would train in Europe  My best guess is the restriction of lasix is in place because it ...
