Re: 2019 Foals

@ Taylor Made Stallions Filly by Midnight Storm out of Terri's Pass (War Pass). Terri's Pass was the first foal on the ground for her sire, who we lost far too soon. It will be interesting to see what color this filly turns, since Midnight Storm is a nearly black horse, and the dam is gray. Several...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Found this on Twitter....... someone made a chart of all the horses who've broken down with info on last races, works, racing surfaces, etc. I think all it really shows is how random this is. https://twitter.com/ukHolloway91/status/1106231139960795138 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D1ofWzIX0AAARSz.jpg:...

Re: Sad state of breeding

I've been lurking for a while after taking a (several year) hiatus from posting, but this is a subject near and dear to my heart. I totally concur with the original assessment. I feel like we are seeing the effect of bad breeding practices. The American thoroughbred industry needs to enact some sta...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Hey Ridan, My genetics may be several years out of date, but from what I have read it seems that in addition to dominant white, TBs have been genetically identified as carrying genes for both overo and sabino (and possibly splash too?), which are also spotting patterns. Sabino can be responsible fo...

Re: Stallion News

I have a question about coat color genetics and I'm posting it here because it pertains to stallions. Long River is a chestnut, but his sire is dark bay/brown and his dam is bay. Both of Mucho Macho Man's parents are gray, but he's bay, and I thought that gray was dominant? What is at play here? Lo...

Re: 2019 Foals

No kidding there are a LOT of fillies this year so far. :o Not really surprising, and I think you'll find it evens out as foaling season progresses. There have been a few studies done on gestational length, and they've found that colts tend to gestate longer. Thus, more fillies are born earlier :)

Just from seeing Barbara Livingston's photos this afternoon, that's atleast 3 horses dead at Santa Anita in 24 hours from track injuries.

Re: 2019 Foals

Yeah, maybe. I can't decide yet...don't see the telltale gray eye liner nor around her nose, but the legs look grayish. ^^^ If she were grey, you'd expect to not see grey legs. She's displaying pretty standard foal buff on her legs and underside so right now she looks standard bay. Grey foals are t...

He's got a lot of filling in that right hind. Hopefully it's just from being confined during travel.

Re: New Conformation Photos

They will get a proper shot of him in the spring or summer, but I'm still surprised they didn't stick to racing photos in the meantime (for advertising). Having said all that, the Galileo is pretty strong in Saxon Warrior. Agreed, I see much more Galileo than Deep Impact in him. He's not as fine bu...

Stonestreet just announced this one:

Lady Aurelia--->Curlin

Shocker, eh?
Brilliant turf mare, who they could have sent to Galileo, in the twilight of his stud career.
Nope, let's breed her to resident dirt sire!

Re: 2019 Foals

Could he be black or is that just hyperpigmentation? Not sure if I remember correctly but I think hyperpigmentation only happens in foals that will turn gray. Since neither of this foal's parents are gray, there's a decent chance it stays that color. I saw her on Facebook and was intrugued by her c...

I'm not seeing the "goggles" you typically see on a foal that will be gray.
'Goggles' are not a be all end all indicator of grey.
The foal is highly hyper-pigmented with no foal camo. I'd call grey.
