Re: 9th @ SA San Marcos $200K 1-1/4 Turf

I’ve noticed over the years that Spawr horses seem to get a lot of freshening, usually first off the claim. Seems like he has an inordinate amount of stock that suddenly develop breathing problems. They seem to comeback stronger than ever though. He's not first off the claim, but he is coming off a...

The problem is spotting the .1%. ;) You’ve stumbled upon one of the great truisms of human existence. I may bite....but I’ve had all my shots.😉 I do tend to stumble upon things. Two days ago I stumbled over the dogs and broke my wrist. Sorry to hear that! We’re getting ready to go to our daug...

I've never been able tell if you're laughing at or with us, Curtis but I guess I have my answer.

My parents raised me to understand that everyone has something to teach you. I've yet to meet smarter people. My dermatologist recommends SPF 50, so take that how you will.
99.9% it’s with you.

Re: 2019 Kentucky Derby

I’ve been following this game for quite awhile. Why is it that ML makers never put a horse up higher than 50-1? Once upon a time I heard it explained as "professional courtesy" to the connections. However, I also recall some 99-1shots running on the fair circuit, most notably Pomona back in the day...

Too encouraging?
You know it. The Great White One had a horse go off at almost 70-1 last year and rumor has it his always get overbet. Does Jon think smart money from Japan is going keep Master Fencer from the indignity of triple digits?

Re: Roadster

Yes you have. And your comment about the allowance win 3/19 has nothing to do with the point. But let's move on. Good luck the First Saturday in May. You had a point? Yes, I did. And a rather odd response from you, or perhaps I should say surprising to me, but you never know what is going to push p...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Charlie knew he had a superior horse in Ferdinand.Game Changer. Somebody must have forgotten to tell Snow Chief when he beat Ferdinand by a pole in the Santa Anita Derby and then later convincingly in the Preakness and then in a photo in the Strub. The game changer for Ferdinand were favorable pace...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

One of the things I was thinking about OB needing the lead for his best effort was his inability to punch it in one of those maiden turf events where he went favored. Cigar never seemed to want to punch it in on turf either. Omaha Beach has faced some bigger fields, but most of the horses were of l...

This probably sounds dumb but I wish By My Standards had a better name.
My farrier was out the other day to trim and shoe my herd. He announced his Derby horse is By My Standards because of his name. Not sure what his standard are though.

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

I don't think he needs the lead. I do think, based on his response to being behind horses early in the AK Derby, that he needs a clear outside trip. The draw will be critical, but it's very tough to know what to do with him because some horses hate being inside and taking dirt but never end up havi...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Question for the fans of Omaha Beach. First off I was kinda tossing him thinking he needed slop for his best effort (I bought into the ouchy feet stuff and initial tries on turf) but now I'm wondering if you think he needs be in front all the way for his best and is that the trip you are projecting...

Re: Jockeys choosing the "wrong" horse

Wasn't Perrauld champion turf horse in 1982 or 83 ? I know i seen him in NY a couple of times! Perrault was champion turf horse in 1982 based upon winning the San Luis Rey and Arlington Million. He also won the Hollywood Gold Cup, in fast time, and if not for the aforementioned DQ in the Big ‘Cap, ...

Re: Jockeys choosing the "wrong" horse

Another one for Shoemaker from 36 years ago was when he got off of John Henry to ride The Wonder in the American Hcp at Hollywood Park in 1983. At the time, his choice was not a real surprise to anyone, though. John was coming back off of a long injury layoff as an 8yo and The Wonder was a marvelou...

What kind of glue and paperclips are they using to hold Maximum Security together? His "works" aren't much faster than 2 minute licks and his "history" is common knowledge at this point, at least as it is told. I was thinking more bubblegum and duct tape but we’re both on the same tract if not trac...

Re: Jockeys choosing the "wrong" horse

More Derby examples: Arcaro opted for Hill Prince over Middleground in 1950. He also chose Devil Diver over Shut Out in 1942. Shoemaker was adamant about wanting to ride Sword Dancer in the 1959 Derby but Harry Silbert, his agent, had long before given the call to Tomy Lee, so it can work both ways...
