Re: Stallion News

I don’t particularly find Max Security an enticing stallion prospect. Sure, he can run. WHY did they decide to start him in a $16,000 maiden claiming race? That’s a pretty cheap race! What the hell was/is wrong with him? It makes me suspicious. Anyone able to identify a claiming horse that has gone...

Re: California Chrome to Japan

Why is this so hard to understand? How would Japanese fans act if every year a foreign country came and purchased a portion of their national champions, classics winners, and fan favorites? How about one of our rich farms go purchase Almond Eye, Orfevre (who has had less breeder interest), Kitasan ...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Curious to hear from anybody that saw this interview yesterday, as recapped in the LA Times newsletter today..... NBC’s telecast of the Pennsylvania Derby addressed the Justify issue by bringing in veteran journalist Tim Layden to discuss it with Nick Luck. I’ll state up front that Tim and I are fr...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

So you're saying Baffert should use PR (otherwise known as "spin") in order to fix this? I'll stick with science, and veracity myself. But meanwhile, I don't think any PR person would "out-spin" Baffert. It's one of the things he is known for. If he ever failed at horse racing it wo...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Sadly it doesn’t seem to be affecting his reputation. Even respected vets are trying to “explain away” Justify’s positive. Why people want to protect Baffert is beyond me. I imagine if this was another trainer no one would be so protective. It seems like it’s not affecting him now, you’re right. Bu...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

I hope Baffert is hiring a good PR firm. It doesn’t matter how innocent he is. His reputation could take a serious hit with things like this. He’s the face of the sport and already I’ve had a few non-racing fan acquaintances ask me about this.

The amount of blind eye people are using to explain this away is annoying and slightly disturbing.

Is it my imagination or did Mucho get squeezed a bit at the end? Not saying that it made a difference in the finish though.

Re: 2018 Clasico Del Caribe

No. If she owned one of them it was a daughter of Mayo on the Side. The only reason I say that is because I remember the horse (if I am remembering right) was claimed out of a cheap claiming race and they retired her to be a broodmare. The Real Mayo fits that, she was claimed for $10,000 in July 20...

Re Tamarkuz,

I think he just has a pronounced eye ridge. Tom Fool had something like it - you can kind of see it here.

If I remember correctly his grandson Foolish Pleasure had a version of it, too.

Yes, thank you! I’m just a lurker. I used to post back in the aughts.

I loved the “basic” feel about the site then. But this is very elegant, partticularly the Secretariat drawing. Kudos! Looking forward to posting again.

Only example I can think of is a yearling filly by Giant's Causeway out of Sweeter Still. The dam had four crosses of ND and was a stakes winner. Not terribly helpful, I know.
