Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Thank you MSD and Treve! Honestly, I'm just crossing my fingers that none of it is misleading. I fully admit to a deep distrust of Baffert and Arthur going back to the seven dead horses report, and I'm hoping that someone with more direct equine pharmacology experience can chime in here. To that end...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

I know you have worked with a backside vet before, but do you have understanding of pharmacology in the way TB does (who if I'm not mistaken, makes her living in the field?) Because if you would you would realise the amounts found in this case are not anywhere near trace amounts, let alone amounts ...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Because it's always a good idea to get really angry when you're trying to fall asleep, I went and read another response by Rick Arthur (from: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/235774/some-question-some-praise-chrb-process-in-justify-case ). In it are even more lies that would sound of...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Having read Baffert's lawyer's response, I'm afraid there's not much room for generous intepretation left. Here's what might be the most egregious part: Fourth, your article neglects to mention the miniscule levels at issue with JUSTIFY. You report an alleged finding of 300 nanograms. What you fail ...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

I suppose I'm coming at this from a different angle. The news was so deeply unsurprising that I actually find it encouraging that it was reported in the first place. I understand feeling sad about it, but how many people were actually surprised to hear it? If you weren't, then perhaps it's time to t...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

CHRB has responded http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/report-justify-failed-drug-test-before-derby-chrbs-arthur-calls-story-nonsense/#.XXmibWseX74.twitter I like how this response focuses in very narrowly on the "he should have been DQ'd prior to the Derby" angle, which is by far the easiest to d...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Honestly, there's no reason to give Baffert the benefit of the doubt. The bigger story here has less to do with Justify (though he must be DQ'd, and all of his breeding advertising will just have to deal with it) and more to do wth the behavior of the CHRB. Regardless of the cause of the overage- an...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

I managed to get the article. Haven't read through it yet, but the amount was 300ng/mL. The allowed limit is 75ng/mL, and it extremely unlikely to be the result of trace contamination. There's also this: In the months that followed the decision to drop the case against Justify, the racing board move...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Free article with more information here. Evidently, it's a bronchodilator: https://www.paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/new-york-times-justify-tested-positive-for-scopolamine-after-santa-anita-derby-chrb-dismissed-case/ I would dearly like to read the original article and access as much additional inf...

Re: Honor Code ...

Unbridled was a closer. He seemed to eek out a living as a stallion. A.P. Indy as well. And it's easy to forget, given how fast his offspring tend to be, that Tapit wasn't exactly a speedster either. I don't have any particular feelings towards Honor Code, but he was a quality horse, and that fact ...

Re: Saratoga 2019

I didn't go in the super fancy part, but just the clubhouse roof refurbishments were gorgeous. I agree that it would be nice to see the main grandstand get some love too, it's falling apart in spots. One thing I really loved was the opening up of more paddock rail space. Moving the broadcasting tent...

Re: 2019 Two-Year-Olds

I don't see why the Hopeful would be downgraded; I thought the field was very good this year. It's unfortunate that the rain caused Green Light Go to scratch, but the race featured two graded stakes winners and three very nice maiden winners from the meet. I think Basin is a very promising horse, an...

Man, this year's Derby was a psychologist's field day. I hope someone somewhere gets a paper out of it.

105 for Code of Honor, btw. Nice figure, nice race.

Re: Travers 2019

Twitter is a cesspool, as is all social media. I stopped using all of it a few months ago and my mental health has really improved. It is weird though. People celebrated Sun King for the exact reason they don't like Tacitus. Yeah, I don't even have an account, but I thought it would be interesting ...

Re: Travers 2019

I’ve certainly never had any thoughts of malice towards the horse. I just have come to the conclusion that he doesn’t have a discernible turn of foot. Does he need that to win a G1? No but it does mean tinkering needs to be done. I trust Mott if he thought that bad luck was the root cause of Tacitu...

Is it my imagination or did Mucho get squeezed a bit at the end? Not saying that it made a difference in the finish though.
There was a lot of bouncing, but it was hard to tell who initiated it. Appears to be no objection.

Re: Travers 2019

Wonder what 'unlucky' Tacitus' excuse is today? Too good of a trip? :) Why on earth are people so mean about Tacitus? He ran his eyeballs out like he always does, this time setting a strong pace while on the lead for the first time. What do you want him to do, run last so you don't have to admit he...

I think Bisou got it, but I'm hoping for a dead heat as well.

Re: Travers 2019

Come Dancing and Mitole were both tremendous today.

Love Tacitus, hate the blinkers on and the price but will be rooting for him. Owendale at 12-1 is fantastic. Speed has been great in the Travers in recent years, but these speed horses can beat me.

Re: Standout Losing Efforts

Honestly, Victory Gallop was so badly interfered-with in the stretch that his winning effort was the more impressive one- and it saved us all from a lot of drama. Great topic, though! My first thought was Congaree's third in the 2001 Kentucky Derby. He ran his heart out that day as the only horse wh...
