Re: Matings 2019

The old man will be 22 next year, and based on 156 mares this year, it doesn't look like he is slowing down (or that Coolmore plans on letting him slow down). But if he is still willing and able, why not I guess. I wonder what his % of mares in foal have been the last couple of years.

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I don't find Kitten's Joy feminine at all. What's feminine about a baby cat? I know the horse is named for Ramsey's wife, but 90% of the people who have heard the horse's name don't know that. Even then, I don't really find it that feminine, since the name is possessive, not something like "Fluffy K...

Re: Imperative

Didn't Paolucci say that once all of his current horses in training are retired/sold, he is done with the game? Maybe he just isn't willing to take one more step closer to leaving.

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

Coolmore also gives some good one word names to their mares sometimes. Up, Was, Twirl, Minding, Winter, Tapestry, Soon, etc. Godolphin Australia has the best one word names. If you don't mind going down a bit of a rabbit hole, their website has all of their horses in training listed, and whoever is...

The well known jockeys publicly stating that the track and footing is perfect in every way made me lol. Because if anyone will tolerate a dissenting opinion, it's the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

Too Darn Hot Retired After Career Ending Injury https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/235079/too-darn-hot-retired-after-career-ending-injury Between the death of Sea of Class and the retirements of Calyx and Too Darn Hot, the 2019 turf season really isn't panning out entirely as I expect...

Aw, frack.
IIRC, that means a lot of dead and infected tissue needed to be removed. :(
Come on, you great grey, and beat this.

Calyx , standout 2yo last season by Kingman, has been retired and has been acquired by Coolmore Bleh. Also, can we talk about how, at 48, Frankie Dettori is at the peak of his remarkable career? 11 Group 1s in eight weeks: Sussex Stakes Goodwood Cup King George Irish Oaks Prix Jean Prat Coral-Eclip...

Awesome to see her back in the winner's circle. After her first couple of lacklustre runs this season, I was afraid that she had started to lose interest.

Talk about a nightmare scenario, colicking literally 15 minutes in his first non-quarantine turnout. Cambridge also just completely rebuilt their stallion complex, with a wing of the barn dedicated to their two shuttlers, the other being the equally awesome Almanzor. What a nightmare and stressful s...

Re: Stallion News

I find Gold Ship antics more annoying and dangerous than majestic or quirky. With every photo I see of him rearing, I like him less, and I really wasn't a huge fan of him when he was in training. He either won or threw in the towel and lost by enormous margins. Hopefully his offspring don't inherit ...

The biggest surprise was that the colt, Grosser Bar, is by Harbinger (GB) and *not* Gold Ship. I'm guessing he'll have two handlers the next time out... finished 8th this time. Looks like she won't be gray. Dangit. Also, Summer Wind is improving in the names department. Did someone involved in the operation pass away? If not, the name is kind of... a downer. Japan takes the G1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp. He's shaping up to be O'Brien's best 3 year old Re. Beat the Bank, he was tough as nails, and those connections just have some horrific luck.
