That is just the definition of a class horse and a class trainer. I'm not going to let his possible retirement put me off appreciating a brilliant performance.

Since the photo is back, I'll repeat the comment that Justify reminds me of Point Given --an imposing beast while racing, but heavy and rather coarse at stud. (And PG was not successful at stud.).

I'd love to see how this thread would have developed if the situation had involved Code of Honor and Shug McGaughey. Rather differently, I suspect.

Re: Belmont

The Los Angeles Times basically ignored racing until they were tipped off about the horse deaths at Santa Anita. Now they print every possibly negative story they can, even those of no interest to readers (e.g. a dispute over racing dates)--anything to make the sport look bad. Sometimes it's better ...

I think there would have been similarly quippy statements if AP had bitten, say, Joe Biden. No , he’s a Democrat and as such whatever he spouts is gospel, they can do no wrong, people would just say, “oh that’s just crazy “Uncle Joe” joshing around. Democrats can say some of the most off the wall b...

Based on my visit to Ashford last year, there's a WHOLE lot of people who could buy the "American Pharaoh didn't bite ME!" T-shirts . :-).

BTW I don't believe it either, but it it's true. . .kinda weird. :x

Why didn't Baffert just use those nasal strips like Doug O'Neill? Do they look too dorky? :!:

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Let me say this again. The CHRB found that Justify was the winner of the SA Derby and this entitled to the points. So you all want Kentucky to say "Oh, we disagree, so we're going to DQ him (even if there is no mechanism for retroactively recalculating points) and declare a new winner.". What's to s...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

He won't be disqualified. The governing body (CHRB) had that power with respect to the SA Derby, and they did not exercise it. I don't see how Kentucky can make a contrary decision. You can't have every jurisdiction making an independent review of a case determined elsewhere. Did the CHRB run scared...

Bast [Unclo Mo x Laffina] was mighty impressive in the Del Mar Debutante winning by 8 3/4 lengths over Inspiressa
Yup. I believe they said she's out of an Arch mare. No wonder she ran down Inspiressa, who beat her easily at 5 1/2 but has a pedigree that starts gasping thereafter.

Summer Bird posted above. Very impressive--is Eight Rings still superior as they stretch out? Watch this space! (I'm going to Del Mar for the Futurity--love the relaxed vibe and the chance to see a really good two year old. Thinking about the problematical Other Baffert, Garth.)
