It's like when my new dog tries to get ancient Dooley to play, and he looks at her as if to say "Seriously?"

Kentucky Oaks hopeful Bast has suffered a soft tissue injury and has been retired.

It seems that the rotten 3yo luck has struck the fillies this year.
So, rather than give her four months off and regroup, it's off to the shed.

Re: AEI and CI

My head is hurting already. As I commented in the other thread, I have a paper Stallion Register from about 2016 and it was really surprising how many stallions had a lower AEI than CI. Given how many of those stallions are considered superior, I'm not sure how much value the figures have. Of course...

On topic, Charlatan (Speightstown x MGSW Authenticity) became the latest "Is it too late to make it to the Derby?" topic for Baffert by crushing in a depleted MSW at Santa Anita in 1.08.8. Never broke a sweat.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

Doesn't the "Comparable Index" (CI) try to show what the mares have produced with other stallions? Theoretically a great stallion should have a higher AEI than CI (if I'm understanding correctly) but of course this calculation can also be skewed if a stallion is bred to mares who have already produc...

Re: Report: Zayat Sued for $23 Million, Sold Shares in American Pharoah

I will amplify is that recording a UCC-1 form is analogous to recording a mortgage or deed of trust in the local (usually county) repository. Once it is recorded, it constitutes "constructive notice" to the world about the lender's security interest in the listed property. Hence, no one can be an in...

You know how I avoid the ‘Crazy Chromies’? I don’t spend my time reading their Facebook comments. Saves me a lot of exasperation ;)
I know, but every now and then I can't resist. It's like probing a bad tooth--you know it will hurt but you still do it.

At last, definitive information about Chrome's illness thanks to the Paulick Report...https://www.paulickreport.com/news/bloodstock/california-chrome-has-minor-bout-of-enteritis-in-japan/ Is anyone here familiar with enteritis in horses, its causes and prognosis? Re: G2 San Vicente 7F Sunday @ SantaAnita

IIRC he was 1323 pounds on debut--not easy to keep sound and happy. But he may well be better around two turns where his natural speed gets him position without having to go 22 or so. Just wish he hasn't shown as a need the lead type.

So, three races in three months would use him up? I get the popularity of "two preps" but with one of them at 7F???

They showed Nadal schooling in the paddock and he was doing the rocking-horse thing all the way around. Only one handler, too. :o

Storm the Court was also schooled and stood calmly in the saddling barn.

Wonder if the "other Baffert" angle is worth working in. (Ra'ad.)

Why? Does it make you uncomfortable for someone to point out that MbS is using horse racing to 'sports wash' his country's and his reputation?
Well, I'm on BA's page. Saudi Arabia is one place I'd be queasy about boosting. But then, that kind of money will buy a lot of Tums, I guess.

Rule # 1 of photography is "Don't have a telephone pole poking out of the subject's head!" Okay, the building posts aren't coming out of WF's head, but they're still distracting. B-a-a-a-d.
