Re: Imperative

From TWITTER: Ron Paolucci Racing @LooochRacing · Jul 29 Imperative will be supplemented to the Whitney on sat — he’s as good as he’s ever been right now... if he’s not competitive he will be retired my partner and I both agree on this ! No better race or place if it’s his last dance!! #handsomeboy ...

Re: Standout Losing Efforts

The infamous 2013 Brooklyn Handicap. A standout losing effort for Percussion simply because he led the entire way into the stretch, and then was lassoed and cold cocked by a 10yo Calidoscopio who was running in an entirely different galaxy for most of the race. That is one race I'll never tire of w...

Re: Standout Losing Efforts

Seattle Slew in the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup. He sprinted for the full mile and a half, battled a fresh Exceller all through the stretch and only lost by a nose. A stride after the wire, he was in front again. Bill Shoemaker, who rode Exceller, said after the race, “When I hit the stretch I though...

Cape of Good Hope (A O'B) was 3rd today in the inaugural Saratoga Derby. He is a full brother to Highland Reel and Idaho. Hveger is quite a mare.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

Wooderson (Awesome Again x Lotta Kim), 1/2 to Rachel Alexandra, ran a good second to Tom's d'Etat today in the Alydar Stakes. A good second in that he was 6+ lengths in front of the show horse, T d'E was much better than the one length victory might imply. Regardless, pleased to see Wooderson get a ...

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

Shancelot just ran off the screen in the Amsterdam, leaving a pretty good field "toiling in his wake". The sprint division is rather deep this year. . .

And why we're here, is Chad Summers working for Navarro these days? Or maybe Shancelot is staying in his barn, along with Imperial Hint.

Re: Older Horses - 2019

I believe they said he was "15 and a half hands", not sure if they meant 15.2 or 15 1/2 inch hands. The guess says they meant 15.2, the eye says maybe smaller. As 14.2 hands and under is the official definition of a "pony" he misses the cut either way. Regardless, he appears as a pony among men unti...

Anybody know how big Imperial Hint is?

A little over 15 hands, but he didn't let that keep him from scorching a 114 BSF yesterday.

Re: Big Saturday @ The Spa

Tacitus has really physically matured over the summer, he came into the derby looking like he was in a growth spurt. The front end has caught up, that is one big, imposing animal.
Although he may not have matured mentally, lol.

Not his best piece, ever, but I always really enjoyed Jay Hovdey's writing.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

Wednesday turned into a family affair for Minit to Stardom in the Honorable Miss (gr. 2). The 4-year-old filly is the first graded stakes winner for her sire, Star Guitar —a leading stallion in Louisiana and an accomplished Brittlyn Stable homebred—and her 3-year-old brother Star Fitzstall broke hi...

Re: Haskell Day

Thanks to Bloodhorse, I've been able to see the replays for the Molly Pitcher, Oceanport, Monmouth Cup and Del Mar's San Diego. Short fields everywhere, although War Story and Bal Harbour battling head-to-head down to the wire in the Monmouth Cup made for a pretty exciting finish. Nice to see War S...

Re: Haskell Day

Give a horse a shot of Lasix to dehydrate them and then run them in this weather. What a great idea. EIPH is significantly increased by heat and humidity. What else are they supposed to do? Besides not running, which would seem to be the prudent option. That would be the point. They'd get the Lasix...
