Re: Tragedy hits Santa Anita again

Thank you for that bit of encouraging news. Hopefully, the rule changes don't "die in committee."

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

I'm under the impression that many horses are cued by specific whip taps to change leads, which is needed during a race. Letting uninformed elements decide on things like Lasix and crop use is not going to make the horses safer. I feel like those are visible red herrings that TSG has thrown out to k...

Re: 2019 Eclipse Awards-Predictions?

FWIW, Paulick's latest poll asks: "If voting were today, who would get your vote for Horse of the Year?"
The results so far have Bricks and Mortar far ahead of the other candidates; 68.03% to Mitole's 13.56%, Vino Rosso's 10.85% and Midnight Bisou's 7.56%.

Re: The Melbourne Cup (G1)

When does the Cup go off? Since I can no longer get TVG, I'm going to have to be satisfied with reading about it. :(

Re: Waiting for news on ...

I read elsewhere that the horse is fine. Jock pulled up when he felt the stride was off, but it turned out that the horse had only thrown a shoe.

Re: Question about breakdowns

Climate change!?
I've read a lot of theories trying to explain Santa Anita's issues, but that is a new one for me.

Re: The Melbourne Cup (G1)

That seems to be a good draw for Constantinople, and for Cross Counter, as well.

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

It would appear that, in an effort to avoid having the surface be too hard and concussive, they may have over-corrected and made the track too deep. Fatigue can bring about injuries as well, just different maybe than impact damage. :(

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

IMHO, an injury like that could have just as easily happened at Churchill or Aqueduct. Blaming the BC for not moving the meet isn't constructive, especially when you can not guarantee a breakdown wouldn't have occurred at a different track.

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

NBC finally addressed the fact that Mongolian Groom broke down in the stretch, rear hind broken, it looked like. :(
Track vet said he loaded on the horse ambulance and been taken to the on-grounds equine hospital.

If you turn a stallion loose in a muddy field, you gotta expect him to come back covered in dirt from head to hoof.

I don't care who wins the Classic now; Bricks and Mortar should be HotY.

Also I thought Smith was off Mckinzie.

He is. He's riding Yoshida, who I am rooting for. ;)

I'm away from the TV (computer in different room), so I missed Kumin's crack. Anyone have the complete quote?

Man, it was so cool to watch those two little red rockets show their heels to all the boys! Uni and Get Stormy really threw it down in the stretch, but Uni's kick was just better. :D

How precocious is that O'Brien offspring? Youngest jockey to win a BC race (aboard the late, lamented St, Nicholas Abbey in the Turf), and now the youngest trainer to win a BC race. :D

Does Peter Miller know how to train turf sprinters or what? Third year in a row he's trained the winner of this race...and a few place horses, as well.

That is a fairy tale come true; a mare who nearly died in the San Luis Rey fire, and who was lost for two days, has just run the fastest BC Turf Sprint ever.
