Re: Tragedy hits Santa Anita again

Actually, she already has as referenced above. And although I agree that ZERO deaths may be overly optimistic (as ALL deaths are not a potential function of the hypothesized cause or other preventable causes if addressed), the fact that a cluster of the deaths may be eliminated/mitigated seems like...

Re: Tragedy hits Santa Anita again

It's honestly disturbing that so many of you are seemingly more upset by the media coverage of the deaths than the deaths themselves. <snip> If you actually want this sport to exist past the next decade, quit whining and start holding people in the industry accountable. THIS. Sounds pretty easy, bu...

Re: Tragedy hits Santa Anita again

Research has continuously shown that these deaths are preventable . This means we can get to zero deaths if we stop throwing our own pity party and actually concentrate on looking at the problem and finding a solution. GQ Covergirl was unraced at two, whereas Emtech made only one start late into hi...

Re: Expensive Purchases Hit The Racetrack

Thousand Words, a million dollar yearling purchase by Pioneerof the Nile (@WinStarFarm) (bred by Amy Tarrant of Hardacre Farm), toughed it out in his debut at @santaanitapark for @spendthriftfarm and Albaugh Family Stables.

If there ever was a year for a foreign horse to ship in and try the Classic, this is the year. Are there any potential candidates?
Or a filly. But are there any?

Re: 2019 Fasig-Tipton November Sale

I wonder if Mandy Pope will cut back her spending on broodmares having spent $8.2M on the sale-topper at Keeneland? I wondered the same thing! I thought she made a comment, something like she had to dip into her broodmare fund to purchase her. She said she spent all the money she had set aside for ...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

So we should believe Baffort’s attorney. Got it. Tough choice, one of them relies on click bait to make a living while the other tries to operate within the legal system while admittedly pushing the edge of the envelope. Forced to make a decision,? I'd go with the law firm of Shapiro and Cochran er...

By all means, he blames the messenger.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

Kingly (Tapit x Justwhistledixie) won the La Jolla at Del Mar. He's a full to Mohaymen and half to New Year's Day. That's quite the distaff line. The mare has been a nice producer for sure. Was it Kingly's first start on turf? Out of sheer curiosity I went up the dam line and she's the fourth gener...

Re: Haskell Day

Per TVG, track officials are in a meeting with state regulators about whether racing can proceed. They missed post time for R1. ETA: the horses were drenched with sweat just walking in the saddling ring. They all looked fine in the pre-race. Was that sweat or were they hosed down? (I just picked up...

Re: Stallion News

Do owners of top tier stallions exert any influence behind the scenes over which of a horse's first crop go in the gate first, or where they might be placed?

Strategically you'd think they'd want the crop to be front loaded with likely winners to make a good "first impression".
