Re: Battle of Midway

Qvale probably kept his horses in light training during the breeding season. It likely kept them easier to handle. A performance breed stallion is kept in training during breeding season. I can't see any reason a Tbred stallion should be any different other than the concept that Tbreds are holy. ;)...

Re: Battle of Midway

And here we almost had a positive story of a subfertile stallion returning to training and regaining his top form. RIP. Condolences to the connections. Has a horse ever successfully done this? I wonder how hormones play into it with bone density and stuff. This game is painful. Assault. He wasn't q...

Re: 2019 Foals

Were Texas Gem's ears always like that? What could possibly cause that? She wasn't born that way, but she had cysts removed from her ears as a yearling and they wound up floppy. It is also possible for lop ears to be hereditary. Lop ears are considered a fault in every horse breed so they have been...

Really. Is it just me who can't see Horsebagger's photo? Am I doing something wrong? I've tried using Edge as well as Chrome as my browser.

I'm happy to hear about successful foalings, but I just love looking at baby pictures (in case you haven't noticed how many I post).
I can't see it either.

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

Cool race but it's hard to get excited knowing the best horses in it won't race again. The older I get the more I appreciate the NX1 types. At least it's something to get excited about for months/years. Come to the steeplechase side! 2018 Eclipse Champion Steeplechaser Zanjabeel is 6 and still youn...

all this talk and joke abt kukulkan and there's been 0 mention of how he actually finished. did he finish? is he still running? apparently, NO ONE KNOWS!!! :D :D not even nbc could slap a "full order" list together. Pattern Recognition galloped home last. Order of finish: City of Light Seeking the ...

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

The headline is puzzling. Jimmy doesn't look too excited to me, but this boy has been training pretty well although mostly on dirt. Yeah, likely Stronach's call. I hadn't even noticed that. Pretty funny. The layoff line is 45 days. How many Stakes horses frequently run back that quickly? Any horse ...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Foiled Again finished 5th in a tough field to cap off his incredible career last night. He then received a send-off ceremony worthy of his stature. His front shoes were pulled on the track, signifying his retirement, and the crowd sang "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow". Final record: 331-109-70-46, $7...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Standardbred war horse Foiled Again , whom I am running out of superlatives for, won the penultimate race of his career Saturday night at Mohawk Park. That's his 11th win of the year, 109th overall. http://ustrottingnews.com/foiled-again-wins-in-canadian-farewell/ Replay here (6th race on the 22nd):...

Foiled Again Farewell Tour update: Three weeks away from mandatory retirement, the legend earned a gutsy win #108 today, this time at Harrah's Philadelphia. http://ustrottingnews.com/foiled-again-earns-108th-win/ “There’s tears every time I get to sit behind him, and it gets harder every time,” sai...

Kukulkan won easily. He’s now 14 for 14.
I wonder where Kukulkan will go next? He's got nothing left to prove in Mexico and he'd earn more money running in the lowest-level stakes races here than in G1 races down there.

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

On the subject of warhorses, I saw this little article today. Diving into the durability of a Standardbred It is without question, that when comparing the standardbred breed to others like thoroughbreds, standardbreds are the most durable breed in the world. In addition, standardbreds are able to tr...

This Fiber Sonde seems like he’s doing ok in WV for $1,000. Unbridleds Song x Silken Cat (so he’s a half to Speightstown). He never ran a race. Beau Ridge Farm supported him with their own mares and once his foals started winning stakes races people took notice and he's been getting 50+ mares a sea...

Long ago back when Thoroughbred Champions was a "real" website and not just this forum it used to have a list of world records. It's archived here https://web.archive.org/web/20100612193015/http://thoroughbredchampions.com/library/worldrec.htm but was last updated in like 2002 (that 7-Oct-12 date by...

Re: 2018 Vox Populi Award

I wrote in Hopper. I'm still a tiny bit sad he won't be running next year. Foiled Again is a great idea too. Some words about Foiled Again from Moira Fanning of the Hambletonian Society: To me, Foiled Again epitomizes harness racing. He wasn’t a flashy 2- or 3-year-old but he kept going out on the ...
