In about an hour, we'll have another stakes runner for American Pharoah. Another Miracle (AP colt o/o Retraceable by Medaglia D'Oro) - makes his third start and first start since his 24-July maiden win, in the Skidmore Stakes for 2YO ($100,000 purse) - today 16-August 17:18 local time, Saratoga 9th - 5.5f on turf. He is trained by Gary C. Contessa and will be ridden by Manuel Franco.

EDIT - Another Miracle is now American Pharoah's first North American Stakes Winner!

American Pharoah has two offspring in the Arqana August 2019 yearling sale. Both are fillies and represent his second crop, foaled in 2018.

HIP 13 - Filly out of Soho Dancer (Galileo): https://www.arqana.com/lots/vente/251/77223

HIP 38 - Filly out of Adeste Fideles (Giant's Causeway) - https://www.arqana.com/lots/vente/251/77248

Do you think Hong Kong has physical issues or are they trying to find the right spot for him?
I dunno for sure. Whether the cause is physical, mental-behavioral, or just "it's not perfect", he's certainly being Non-Runner'ed from far more races than seems typical even for an A O'Brien trainee. But I also don't know how things work over there with nominations, withdrawals, early closers, and what kind of money it costs to not run in any of multiple races on the same date. It can't be too much since many of the entrants in the three Group stakes that Hong Kong's showing for the weekend of Sep 14-15th are also cross-listed.

Given he's yet to finish on the board in a maiden race, I can't see him making any of those Group races. Clicking on a dozen or so entries at random shows a whole flotilla of youngsters who've already won, often multiple times.

The comments for his two races so far:

9-August 8/19 (7 furlongs Good to Soft): prominent, 2nd early, pushed along briefly halfway, pushed along again 2f out, slightly impeded over 1f out, no extra inside final furlong
27-June 7/11 debut (7 furlongs Good to Yielding) : raced in 5th early, still travelling smoothly over 2f out, tight for room on inner under 1f out, kept on same pace after

Two recent names, neither of which are logging workouts that I can find:
  • Crseven - Colt o/o Avila Road. He was a $240,000 RNA at OBS March 2019 2YO-in-Training sale
  • Bellucci - Filly o/o TheyCallMeLadyLuck

Upcoming runners (some of which may have already been noted above, thank you):

American Butterfly (colt o/o Gracie's Butterfly (War Front) ) - tries a second time to get his first win - MSW Saturday 17 August Saratoga 7th - 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt. He was 7th in his debut 21-July attempting 6 furlongs on dirt

American Legend (filly o/o Yong Musician (Yonaguska) )- making her second try - MSW Saturday 17-August at Ellis Park 8th - 5 furlongs on dirt. This will be a furlong shorter than her debut (2nd place) 14-July at 6 furlongs on dirt. She's half to both Kingdom Road and Co Cola, and her dam is half to Kimchi and half to the dam of Mind Your Biscuits

Holy Roman Empress - Still hasn't dropped from the 23-August Debutante Stakes (Group 2) - that would be a 2-week turnaround from her 4th place run on 9-August. She was 12th in her debut 26-June.

Hong Kong - Weds 21 August (Six Day) Killarney Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (Plus 10 Race) (1m) https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/18 ... -21/738280 - There are no less than 12 entries from A P O'Brien, and he's the trainer for all 9 Galileo offspring entered.

Saqqara King - colt out of the Tapit mare Joyful Victory and a $200,000 purchase by Godolphin in Keeneland's 2018 Sept Yearling sale attempts Listed company when he runs Saturday 17-August - 4:00pm local-time - Deauville Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage 1 mile turf - https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/20 ... -17/738247
He was 3rd in his last start 14-July, a listed stakes at Longchamp; 1st in Heath Court Hotel British EBF Novice Stakes (Class 4) (Turf); and 4th in his debut 1-June. He was AP's first listed stakes winner and first GB winner, now he might be the first to hit 4 starts and 2 listed stakes.

Saqqara King took second in the listed Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage today.
Notes: Chased leader on outer, virtually upsides from 3f out, led 2f from home, driven over 1 1/2f out, soon ridden and headed entering final furlong, no extra

American Butterfly (colt o/o Gracie's Butterfly (War Front) ) - He won! He grabbed the lead about a furlong in, with rivals sticking close, then pulled away and managed to hold on to a 3-length lead. He finished 7th in his debut last month; both races were on dirt.

American Legend (filly o/o Yong Musician (Yonaguska) ) - Also gets her first win on her second try! She was running 5furlongs on the dirt in the 8th at Ellis Park today. She was in the middle until making a super-wide sweep around the final turn and then charged past the leaders, winning by several lengths.

So, that makes 9 winners so far for American Pharoah, and fourth winner on the dirt (Maven and Another Miracle are the other dirt winners).

Our boy is having a great weekend. First North American stakes winner, and now two new winners.

Liraz must have some problem. That's a $25,000 claiming race. It's not even an optional claimer. Plunk down $25,000 and have a shot at getting her. I guess she never outgrew whatever it was that caused her to go for only $33,000 in January 2019 (Keeneland All-Ages sale) after being a $250,000 RNA as a weanling in fall of 2017.

Jemima's Pearl, her dam, has two offspring older than Liraz, both unraced (or they ran overseas and I've not yet found them). She was bred back to American Pharoah in 2018 and produced a full sister to Liraz that is offered as HIP 461 in the upcoming Keeneland September Yearling sale.

I wonder what the residual value as broodmare potential would be given the lack of successful siblings (Now that I've said that, watch Liraz crush the field)

It could be that her connections are looking to sell her for X reason, maybe ASAP, and they didn't want to go through the hassle of sale prep and application.

I'd say she has a good chance of getting claimed, too. Considering how hit American Pharoah is as a sire this week.

Agreed. I suspect someone will pounce on her as a broodmare speculation if nothing else. A.P. hasn't been around long enough to have produced a lot of flops yet. IIRC Liraz is one of five 2017 foals produced off the American Pharoah/Distorted Humor cross, and the only runner from that cross. Basquiet is working at Saratoga, Feeling Funny stopped logging workouts back in March?, Distorted Point and Visions of Annette haven't worked yet.

(take all my info with salt, I don't have inside knowledge)

EDIT to add: - Phast Pharoah was 4th. He broke from 1, others leapt out to the lead immediately and he found himself next to last, then last for a couple of strides. But he was kept to the rail, started picking up speed around the turn and picking off challengers. Space at the rail stayed open so he had a great ground-saving trip and a very fast closing kick to just miss out on 3rd. It's disappointing that he didn't win, but he definitely is improving.

Quick update: In Australia American Pharoah had 111 live foals last year, They officially turned 1 on August 1st and I haven't seen any named yet but I will keep a eye out though many will go through various sales from Jan-May next year.
Ask me any questions you have about New Zealand and Australia racing

They're keeping him busy, in both senses of the word !

Thanks for the update. I haven't even started to track the Southern Hemisphere foals. Is there a free mostly-centralized source of information for your racing like Equibase (and some bits of Equiline) in US/Canada? Those aren't complete but they'll get 95% of the current racing information and a paid account will get access to mare and foaling and other registration information.

Some updates, hampered by super-slow internet today plus meetings:

23 August (Friday) addition: - Toastnjam - First logged workout for this filly out of Toast to Ashley! - Saratoga/dirt

24 August (Saturday) workouts:
* Cardiac Kid - Sarasota/dirt for Ken McPeek, first logged work since running 5th in an MSW on 10-August (colt o/o New Wave, by Tale of the Cat)
* Cool Runnings - Del Mar/dirt for J Keith Desormeaux
* Drapes - Fair Hill/allweather
* Egyptian Princess - Churchill Downs/dirt
* Express Pharoah - Gulfstream Park/dirt
* Skygaze - Woodbine/allweather for Mark Casse

Name Registered:
* Nile River - Colt o/o Jeweliana (2017), by Smart Strike - purchased by Katsumi Yoshida in the FT March 2YO in Training sale. He has an entry in JBIS, but the name update so far shows up only on the Equibase page.

Upcoming Races:
* 28 August (Wednesday) - Eagerly - Maiden tackling a Grade 3! With Anticipation Stakes G3 - 2 year olds, . One And One Sixteenth Miles. (Turf) - Will he become American Pharoah's first North American Graded Stakes runner, or dare we hope, winner? His only previous run was his third-place debut 27-July also on Saratoga's turf, also 1-1/16 miles. He is getting 4 pounds on all but 1 other entry due to being a maiden, and is the only maiden in the field. In that debut race he trailed near and in last until making a big move along the back and far turn to overtake all but the first two in a very strong finish. He is trained by Todd Pletcher and will have JR Velazquez aboard
* 29 August (Thursday) - Formal Attire - MSW Belterra Park 2nd race - 13:05 - 6 furlongs on dirt. Trained by Wesley Ward, ridden by Angel Rodriguez. This is just a two-week turnaround as his last race was August 14th at Indiana Grand where he finished last (8th of 8) in 5 furlongs on the turf. He's out of Opulence, daughter of the great Rags to Riches.
* 29 August 2019 - Holy Roman Empress - (Six day) at Tipperary Camas Park Stud Irish EBF Fillies Maiden (7½f) at 17:25

No central database. I go through 5 or 6 sites and social media for my info, I follow another stallions progeny for a overseas friend so will follow Pharoah as well and try to put together a partial list in the next week or so
Ask me any questions you have about New Zealand and Australia racing
