I was not prepared for the emotions I would feel as he was clearly about to win coming down the stretch... holy cow! The crazy part is that it looked like an easy win for him! I can die happy now :D!

I'm so glad you got to be there. I know you're like me with my full-blown need to see it happen. What a freaking perfect day.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!

My dad joked, "So, you're gonna have to wait another 37 for the next one?"

Honestly, and I know this may change, but right now I couldn't care less how long the next one takes. What a great freaking day. What a beautiful time for our sport. Finally.

Whirlaway was called "Mr. Long-Tail" so maybe we should call American Pharoah "Mr. Short-Tail!" I know this because I bought the VHS cassette when I was growing up, and I watched it probably 50 times. I am sure some of you remember it:

Now I have seen a real one. Thank you American Pharoah!

Som, Macaroni, and others at Belmont -- can you try to describe what the crowd/atmosphere was like as they came around the turn and after the win?

Sitting in the stands at Belmont still unable to believe this just FINALLY happened. Was all-out bawling as he came down the stretch. Never been happier. Holy shit.

Screaming. Lots of screaming. When he passed the wire, everyone in my section just started turning to one another for high fives, hugs, whatever. Unbelievable.

Sorry for the triple post but must emphasize I've never felt a more electric, ecstatic vibe from a crowd. Will share photos later if you like. I've gotta say, I stood at the rail in the paddock as he walked in from the barn and the second he passed me, I knew he was going to take it. I know that sounds crazy but the look in his eye and the way he was behaving - he seemed like he was manifesting the "calm before the storm". Looked like he was sitting on something big. And boy was he ever. God I love this horse.

Not crazy at all. When he was easy on the lead in the first quarter it started to dawn on me that he could do it. Wild stuff.

Thanks for sharing your experience. That's amazing. So happy for you and the other 89,999 who got to be there!

I was with the placing judges. I felt the whole place shake. I'm not sure I've ever cursed more in my life. That is saying something. I knew it was over at the half. Looking down and seeing that horse in front. Wow. Sports amazingness.

What a day. :D
