They just announced no racing tomorrow (2/9) at Aqueduct due to the impending snow storm. The area is supposed to get hit with 8 to 10 inches of snow, accompanied by winds in the 20-30 mph range.

Santa Anita has cancelled racing tomorrow (Friday) due to the expected big rainstorm.
ETA: Add Los Alamitos to the SoCal cancellations. On the plus side, it sounds like that means TVG will be providing better coverage of the stakes racing from Australia on Friday night.

Not a cancellation, but those Texas storms late Sunday and early Monday left some damage at Retama Park.

http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/to ... w4.twitterOne of at least four confirmed tornadoes that careened through the San Antonio area late Sunday and early Monday caused significant damage at Retama Park. No injuries to people at the track were reported, and the Quarter Horses stabled on the grounds for training were unscathed.

It's brutal in SoCal, but the heat is even hitting areas of California that normally have more moderate temps. It's probably a good thing that Santa Anita is not racing tomorrow. It looks like the heat is dropping a bit by the weekend, but I think it will still be in the high 80s.

“Horsemen are being given the option to keep their horses at Gulfstream, Gulfstream Park West or move to our training facility at Palm Meadows in Palm Beach."
So...which facility has the highest elevation and the sturdiest stables?

With the hurricane's path looking like it will make landfall right on top of Miami, and the size of it enough to damage most of south Florida, I'm hoping the horsemen and their charges will evacuate. There is no way any of those facilities can withstand a Category 5 impact.BaroqueAgain1 wrote:Gulfstream is cancelling racing Thursday through Sunday, because Hurricane.

Florida has in fact suspended the interstate movement requirements for livestock to encourage speedy evacuation.

Hopefully there are facilities in neighboring states willing/able to take this many horses.

I've seen quite a few posts circulating on FB for basically every major showgrounds/arena/facility in GA, at least, opening as many stalls as they can. Oof. Wild stuff.Miss Woodford wrote:With the hurricane's path looking like it will make landfall right on top of Miami, and the size of it enough to damage most of south Florida, I'm hoping the horsemen and their charges will evacuate. Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!

Looks like a rough go for all the northern tracks right through the middle of next week, at least.

Just saw that Hawthorne has scrapped the Dec 30th card- says "weather"- because of "Freezing-the-hiney-off" syndrome.
