Japan as a racing nation is set to be well represented in the Arc as they target a historic first win in the lucrative Longchamp contest in October, but one horse who will not be travelling to Paris is Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) winner Roger Barows.

Connections had announced his challenge for the Arc this autumn after an intended run in the Prix Niel as his prep. However, the Katsuhiko Sumii-trained three-year-old has been retired after superficial digital flexor tendonitis was found in his right hind on Tuesday.

He is set to embark on a career at stud, with his trainer also citing his valuable pedigree due to the recent death of his prolific sire, Deep Impact.

Glad it's not a serious/life-threatening injury, but bummer that he couldn't make the Arc. :(

Also, Deirdre sure did Japan proud this week. Also very excited to see Harbinger sire a group I winner outside of Japan.

That was FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for sharing it, tachyon!!! It was so neat to see one of the training centers, and the extended close-up of Almond Eye and her typical day.

I would love to be able to visit one day... definitely on my bucket list.

It was the runner-up Satono Gold who emulated his sire's performance off a slow start in this race.

Hi Tachyon,

Any updates on Le Vent Se Lev? Are they still trying to bring him back or has he been retired due to persistent injuries? Thanks

LVSL is still undergoing treatment.
His future plan is unknown.
But I won't be surprised if he retires before next breeding season...

Christophe Soumillon has been booked to ride Kiseki(JPN)(Rulership) in the Arc.
Personally I'm not sure if it's very good news.

They don't have their own website.
But you may find their stallion roaster in the link below.

The undefeated Japanese Oaks winner Loves Only You(JPN)(Deep Impact) will bypass the G1 Shuka Sho, 3rd leg of the Triple Tiara, due to hoof injury. :(

Booo about Loves Only You, I hope she can rehab fully & quickly from her hoof issue. :(

I am happy to see Rulership getting some (very) good runners. And I kinda wish they'd gone with someone other than Soumillon for the Arc, too... :?
