Rick worked tirelessly, for many years, to help everyone on the backside. He fought for their best interests endlessly. His popularity with his owners, fine people like Ralph Evans and Seth Klarman, speaks volumes about what kind of person he was. He was that rare person who could argue without making it at all personal.

It's a sad day for everyone in racing. We lost a great friend and advocate today.

Wow, that is a blow to the sport. RIP, Mr. Violette and condolences to his family and friends.

From the unanimous accolades pouring in, it sounds like he was the very rare individual who could have successfully held the position of National Rcing Czar.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Yeah, but do you have photos........😉

She can do whatever she wants. I do think Bobby’s response would be priceless.

So I've been preaching for some time now that "Pletcher ain't the same Pletcher anymore". After watching Patch just now run up the track at 5/2 in an allowance race to kick off his Breeders Cup weekend......you know who's paying the price, beyond people blindly still betting on his horses while remembering the good ole days?

Mike Repole.

Take a look at his recent results, because from what I can see with a quick search, other than a win by Life's a Parlay in a 5 horse nw1x optional claimer in October 2 @ 3/5 (he's a 750,000 yearling purchase in partnership with St. Elias), he hasn't won a non-claiming race since July. His racing stable HAS TO BE hemorrhaging lately, so I hope he's finding some success on the breeding side with his stallion interests, because its otherwise unsustainable if things don't change.

Tom Van Berg, Jack's son, had an improbable double on today's Churchill card, first with Jack Van Berg (To Honor and Serve) in the 2nd, and then with Casino Star (Flatter) in the 3rd.
Dad must be riding with Tom's horses today. <3

Of course, I put Todd right into the winners circle of his first 2018 BC race.

Just maybe Pletcher misses Mike McCarthy more than any of us know.

stark.... I heard it this morning on the radio too - Rosario coming back to ride here again in SoCal - very happy to hear it - love Joel a ton - looking forward to seeing him here again at the SoCal tracks.

and by the way... was really disappointed for him when I heard that he didn't get that jock award for the BC - it went to Ortiz who won two BC races - Rosario won 3 - the only jock who won 3 BC races - so I don't get that at all - to me, it should have gone to Joel.

Veteran Jockey Patrick Husbands is sidelined from racing action after an incident on Sunday in which he suffered a broken pelvis. Husbands will undergo surgery, but is in good spirits. The #BetWoodbineTB community wishes him a full & speedy recovery.
