Joe Sharp had 8 disqualified, including a stakes winner, because he used a dewormer his vet supposedly OK'd.
I read the DRF article and IIRC wasn't the "dewormer" actually an off-label use of whatever medication it was? And it was restricted b/c it can metabolize into a "potent" (from the article) PED?

(It was also stated that none of Sharp's horses actually had any trace of the metabolized substance in any of their results, which is either good or a he-got-lucky-this-time thing. I *want* to believe that it was just a dumb mistake... )

Who even goes to Atwoods type store to buy their horse meds, instead of using their vet?

This is just so creepy.

Jockey Umberto Rispoli got married on Tuesday and in his first race as a married man just won the opener on Friday's card at Santa Anita with First Empress.

Rispoli married Kimberly Mosse, daughter of the top French rider Gerard Mosse.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Have confirmed that jockey Luca Panici will be sidelined 4 weeks with a fractured collarbone suffered in Friday's finale. Have also learned that Florent Geroux will replace Panici on Ete Indien next Saturday in the FOY and aboard Sole Volante when he returns in Tampa Bay Derby.

never mind.

Jon will be out the rest of the season since he sustained a j collapsed lung after before the a race Feb 13 at OP. He's 59 years old.

Horse racing nation finally decided to mention the injury, on February 21st. Guess news of human injuries travels slowly in the racing world.

I love Jon Court, I wish him the very best and hope he makes a full recovery.

Jockey John Velazquez confirmed after FOY that he and his long time friend and agent Angel Cordero Jr. have parted ways and that he has hired Ron Anderson to handle his book moving forward. Anderson will also continue as agent for Joel Rosario.

The question now becomes will Ron Anderson hold an auction for his future turf star on the west coast, Umberto Rispoli?

More Sharp Trainees Test Positive for Levamisole

“The positive tests were not unexpected. Sharp had indicated the levamisole presence was from a deworming product called Prohibit that he began using in mid-November in Kentucky and continued using through mid-December at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in Louisiana.”

Associated Press is reporting his age as 66. Rillito's been around for many years, but its future has been uncertain recently. A year or so ago, a plan was afoot to tear it down and build youth soccer fields on the land, but the track survived. The death of Gamez, who shows up in Equibase's records all the way back to 1976 (its earliest available year for full statistics), alas, may prove the end of the little Tucson track.

Jockey/Agent musical chairs continues. Kiaran McLaughlin leaving training to return to roots and become agent for Luis Saez.

I hope he's choosing this, and not simply a function of MS advancement.

Am I thinking of someone else, or did he recently move his base to FL due to the cost of business in NY (specifically workers comp?).

Comp rates are continuing to drop but even with that they are insane. I'm not sure how anyone stays in business here.
