I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

By my lazy research, most of today's winners on the main track were either first or second at the initial charted position. I think maybe three horses managed to win from further back.

Tons of SCRATCHES, as you might expect, from the 14-race @PreaknessStakes card that starts at 10:30 a.m. ET, with all but the G3 Gallorette (R9) OFF turf.
G2 Dixie (R7) now a 4-horse race (World Approval out).
Full slate of SCR up soon on http://live.drf.com via @DRFRusso.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I love Tenfold. W/P/S on him. Didn't bet most of the card, this is a day to plant seedlings or watch ducks.

The track is a mess and may favor the front runners like Tap Daddy, who went to the front and improved his position in the off-the-turf James W. Murphy Stakes.
However, the Phipps' grass horse, Fire Away, found that the rail was just fine as he came through from behind horses to win the off-the-turf Dixie Stakes. Only four horses ran, though, so....

Looks like I'll head out to Los Al wanting to take a break from work. Might put anywhere between $40-$100 to win on Justify to only make half that. I hate playing odds-on favorites but I adore that gorgeous hunk and not many horses fancy me anymore.

I still would have a surplus from Justify even if he loses today. His biggest concern is really himself. I was checking out the Brisnet PPs and he's the only horse with any speed. If he gets a 47 half, game over for the rest of the field. Justify will be long gone like American Pharoah did three years ago.

Baffert 4 for 4 in the Preakness after he won the Kentucky Derby. Hard to bet against 100% perfection. More American Pharoah or Nyquist (undefeated at the time)? I see more of a 2015 Preakness déjà vu than 2016's...

2015 Preakness - American Pharoah

2016 Preakness - Exaggerator
https://youtu.be/6ck3NgiHBUk

American Pharoah and Nyquist caught a similar conditions and similar half splits at 46 and change. Nyquist faced more horses though. If Justify has it his own way at 47+, he'll win by open lengths like AP did. Justify has no annoying one-dimensional horse like Exaggerator to deal with and no Uncle Lino.

Easy money? Maybe. Confidence not as high as the Kentucky Derby though. Fast turnaround, 5th race in 91 days, 1/2 odds, and recovering from a bruised heel doesn't make my decision any easier than it was two weeks ago when 136-years of history was staring me right in the face.

I never bet $100 to make $40. I did now. This horse just keeps on giving. Love this horse.

Worst telecast ever. I call it The Invisible Preakness. Only proven winner making me easy money all year so far. Not betting the Belmont though. That's far more dangerous than this one.

Great win by Justify. Not the open-length win that AP had, but it was a more exciting race IMHO. Good Magic really tested Justify almost all the way around the track, and that sort of duel can leave even a good horse empty approaching the wire. But Justify isn't just talented; he's tough.
Not sure how much that race will have taken out of him when the time comes to run on Big Sandy. We'll see.

This field has really suffered in recent years.
I was thinking from a betting perspective, Good Magic has to be the toss in here. $30 worth of trifectas keying Justify on top of everybody else for me.
$1.00 TRIFECTA 7-8-6 $148.30

The finish reminded me of the Tri-Star intro with Pegasus coming from the clouds. Once I saw the Winstar colors coming out of the fog and he had that 47 half, I knew Justify had it in the bag. Erased all my losses and suffering from last year's horrible crop.

The Lost In The Fog Preakness.
