Early excellence is absolute excellence and extreme excellence.
Nonsense! The history of horse racing is chock full of both types of champions -- horses who were early bloomers and late bloomers. Do the names John Henry, Forego and Cigar mean anything to you? They are only two examples of the late blooming type. It's early Sunday morning and I just got up, so my brain cells are not clicking yet. Otherwise I could think of plenty of other examples.

Tremendous week for thoroughbred racing. Accelerate can now go off to the obscurity he deserves, instead of forever being remembered as the late blooming stiff who was disgracefully and ignorantly allowed Horse of the Year over a young phenom.
Did Accelerate steal your wife or what?

Also, on what planet was he Horse of the Year?

Haven't had a chance to keep up with anything lately, but Hidden Scroll just catapulted onto many Derby lists. Incredible debut for a Mott, albeit one who was working lights out before today.

Looking ahead to 2020, the Super Bowl is in Miami on it's usual Sunday.

Pegasus organizers think it would be a good idea to race on that same Saturday.

All eyes on South Florida for 48 hours.

That's a pretty nice figure. This is obviously not saying that he would win it, but Mott is really due for a Derby win. That would probably be almost as satisfying as seeing Shug win it.

I can totally relate. If my dad had trained horses instead of working in automotive mfg., I would have cried my eyes out when a favorite left the stable.

He must be pretty laid back for her to be so attached. Very sweet of her dad to have his arm around her to comfort her. Very bittersweet moment.

The pink in City of Light's eye makes it look like he's sad too.

That's what I thought also - a sweet-tempered stallion, how nice!

Definitely a boy who really, really wants to chew on something. You can see where he has apparently chewed holes in the outside of his stall, and they've had to wrap some sort of protective covering around the corner of the door.
I was getting a little nervous for Millie. I don't think you want to take your eyes off him as long as your fingers are within reach of his mouth. :P
