SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - At a meeting on Thursday, the New York Racing Authority board is expected to propose lengthening the racing season.
According to sources, the meet would still include 40 days of races, but would now be dark on Monday and Tuesday.
The new meet would be from July 11- Labor Day weekend.
The board will need to approve any expansion of the current schedule
Saratoga Good Idea!?

I like it. A five-day week will help with field size, and taking some of Belmont's July days is certainly preferable to going deeper into September. I wonder about the impact on simulcast handle, though. There's a lot less competition for the betting dollar on Mondays than on Wednesdays through Fridays. Is Saratoga's simulcast handle on Wednesday, on which it will still be racing, generally higher or lower than on Monday, on which it will be going dark?.
There is no competition for Saratoga for betting handle. Arguably, days like Monday, where pretty much nobody else is running, are not spectacular handle days. Intellectually you would think it would be an advantage, but it does not work out that way.
I hope this is a one year exception to allow the hockey rink to be built. While Mondays are quiet, it is the one day of the week that allows leisurely activities like multiple trips to the paddock, or a trip to the rail to watch a race.
Everyone come home sound.....
It was an inaccurate report regardless.

Should have realized that, seeing as how the story was published on Thursday. OK, thanks for the clarification on that. But I'm still curious as to what aspect of the original story was inaccurate. I guess we'll just have to wait for the outcome of the meeting.

Any word on the outcome of today's much-speculated-on, misreported-in-advance meeting?
The meeting was yesterday and it wasn't discussed.WaquoitNBroadBrush wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 3:13 pmAny word on the outcome of today's much-speculated-on, misreported-in-advance meeting?
Like I tried to tell you, it was incorrect reporting.
