In the midst of another Santa Anita-less Saturday I thought I’d give you this alliteration. We lost our little Welsh Pony mare, Opie, on Wednesday. She was 36 so now Border is the senior member of the herd. The sun is out and the birds are chirping— not a given during early-Spring in western Washington—and Border Run’s paprika and salt coat is gleaming. So raise a glass to the old guy, if you like.

Weekend morning mimosas seem to be in order, thanks and congrats.

Sure is nice to read some relatively good news being posted here but sorry to hear about Opie.

Now we've got Winx and Border Run news on the same day!!!
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

You've done an amazing job with this precious old guy. Pix?
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I don’t know how to put pictures on here anymore. I get to the point where they’re to be posted and I get an error message stating that there is not enough space.

Condolences on your loss, Curtis! And also to Border and the rest of the herd. It's so hard to lose an old friend.

Sorry to hear about Opie, but what a wonderful age she attained! As for Border Run, I'll surely raise a glass to the old man !!

Sorry about Opie, Curtis. It's hard to say goodbye to our animal friends, even after a good long life. Wow. that son of Secretariat is 31 now. You sure are doing a great job with him. Cheers and Happy Birthday to Border Run!

Curtis, you have my huge congratulations on taking such good care of Border Run. I hope he has a very happy birthday. To help you celebrate, here is a Patricia McQueen photo of Border on the occasion of his 30th birthday from the Thoroughbred Racing Commentary site (https://www.thoroughbredracing.com/arti ... ther-look/) --

That’s a nice photo shoot, if you overlook the guy being surrounded by Border Run and Anniversary Year, although I will say they moved me up in class.😉 Patricia has a grandson in Utah, I believe, that she is planning to visit this summer. She asked if she could extend the trip, come to Seattle and update her photo library on Ol’ Border, so it’s hopeful I can keep him going and she can take some more photos of him. Border Run made it into this year’s calandar as well, so there are photos of him there. I will try to post a current one if I can. He’s hard to photograph up close because he’s always looking for a cookie. Somebody really spoiled these guys.😉

Thanks everyone regarding Opie. Despite what Jerry Seinfeld once said, everyone should have a pony. Opie was a love, we had her the last 10 years of her life—a good ten years. It appears she went in her sleep, we should all be so lucky.

So sorry to hear about Opie, but how wonderful that you've given these horses (and ponies!) such a lovely retirement. Thank you for sharing!

It is a lovely photo shoot and article. As for cookies, what's life for if they (and we) can't enjoy the little things. Big joyful things are relatively few and far between, so I try to look for something joyful every day no matter how small. "Spoil" away, lol!!!!!

Patricia McQueen came and spent the better part of a day and a half with us last weekend and took lots of photos. She has posted some on Facebook. Since some of you have asked for photos of Border Run, here's the link.

Thanks for sharing, Curtis. Border Run looks excellent for his age -- a testament to the care he has received.

Unfortunately, I can't see Border Run's photos on Ms. McQueen's page unless I sign up for a Facebook account. :(

Congrats on not having a Facebook account, I thought I was the only one in the world without one.
