Damn I was seriously going to post that my pick would be the 'other' Baffert (as in Authentic) but thought a gut feeling was not a good enough reason! Well never mind, he was really impressive today but even more green. I'm actually impressed that even when he shied away from that rail, he was still getting away from the rest of the field!

Getaway day.....
Jocks Tyler Baze and Joe Talamo both say goodbye to SA today, heading for parts east of the Rocky Mountains.
Both ride in the finale, and you just know how hard they'll be trying.
Baze has the rail horse listed at 8/1 and certainly has a shot against a suspect bunch.
But Talamo is listed at 10/1 and steps in for regular rider TPierera off the layoff, he'll be flying in the stretch, ohh and it's for trainer Ron Ellis, his Father-In-Law, hmmmmm! $tranger things have happened!

Officials at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., have opted not to conduct live horse racing next Thursday, Feb. 6, as originally scheduled. It had previously been announced that racing would not be conducted as scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 13, and Thursday, Feb. 20 was not among the assigned dates for the meet. Thus racing will be conducted on a Friday through Sunday basis for the next three weeks.

Track officials are hoping the reduction in days will lead to larger field sizes.

Mystery weather day.
Track sealed overnight.
Closed for morning workouts.
No rain yet, maybe rain in the forecast, maybe showers, nobody knows.
As per the new norm, err on the side of extreme caution.

Santa Anita Park has announced a new program to reward the owners of horses who have supported the current race meeting with a Loyalty Bonus to horses who have raced from December 28, 2019 through February 29, 2020. From March 6 through the end of the season on June 21, all eligible horses will receive an additional 10 percent bonus in their first start during that period (paid on first through fifth place earnings). The bonus money will be fully funded by Santa Anita and The Stronach Group and is separate from the purse account.

Santa Anita also announced that beginning March 6 and through the end of the meet, the track will pick up the costs for up to two veterinary examinations for each horse entered. All horses are eligible for the reimbursement, whether or not they have previously run at the track this season.

Due to the forecasted heavy rain in Southern California, Santa Anita has cancelled racing scheduled for this Friday 3/13 out of an abundance of caution. Racing for this weekend will be evaluated later this week and will be dependent on the forecast.

The Stronach Group has announced that racing this month in California will be conducted w/out fans due to the coronavirus. "Personnel licensed by the California Horse Racing Board allowed to attend," the statement said. Simulcasting/morning works closed to the public, also.

It's been raining steadily, sometimes pretty hard, all day where I live. I suspect that by now the Arcadia track is looking lake-like. ;)

Yes, steady rain all afternoon 40 miles east of Arcadia.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

@ Santa Anita, the new "no fan" rules says those with state licences (owners, trainers) will still be allowed in.
As a currently inactive owner but with a valid license I was still thinking about going just to witness it live.
Then I read some more details.....
No food and beverage
No betting windows.
No word yet on clean restrooms!

Geesh, that would really be strange, maybe too strange for me.

Owner credentials alone not enough to get into the plant.....
They actually want to know that you have a horse running today!
