His retirement is really on brand with his entire career.

Too bad, hopefully he can make a full recovery.

Jock agent probably thinking long term, not just this race.
Guerrero barn who has one graded stakes winner in 3700 starts or Baffert for the money, hmmmm?
It's true that Baffert can offer more opportunities in big races, but it's not like this was Ortiz's only chance to start riding for Baffert, and I would think he has probably ridden for him in the past, but that's just a guess. Ortiz is a top jockey and has been champion jockey a couple of times. I think it's more likely that he was probably aware of the skin disease issue, since it's been ongoing for several weeks, and he may have worried about the horse being scratched, since it still wasn't cleared up a week before the race. To me, that is a very possible reason for opting off the horse, more so than needing to ride for Baffert in this particular race. I feel bad for Castellano...no mount one day after switching. That could have been Ortiz.

Spendthrift stallions are always in that range if they are popular. Into Mischief breeds around 250-ish every year.

Does anyone know if the Pegasus will be streamed anywhere?

We switched to Roku recently and I doubt NBC is on here.

To suggest that Ortiz knew about the hives but that somebody like Barbara Livingston didn't share it with us is almost scandalous.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Anybody trying to handicap the Lasix-Off angle?
Will grooms have their buckets of drinking water ready when horses come back to be unsaddled?
The pace seems very confusing to me, will some jock try and be up closer than usual?
So many questions, just hope it works out on the big stage today.

p.s. Despite the shrinking inventory, the west coast is well represented to bring the Pegasus trophies home, (but not the big one in the parking lot)

Isn't hives super noticeable? It would be hard to hide it in photos.

I'm trying to watch on NBC, but the sound is completely screwed up. I can hardly hear the commentators, but the music is blaring, I can't imagine how badly unintelligible the race call is going to be. :(
Anyone else having this problem?

Perfect rail-run trip for the improving Zulu Alpha.
Nice horse by the late Street Cry - too bad he's a gelding.

Mucho Gusto had a nice prep for the Saudi Cup. . . .

And hats off to War Story, that little guy first hit the track in 2014.

War Story always seems to be there in the end. That little gelding just always gives his all.
