1 Ajaaweed (KY) 3/CL J Rosario 118 K P McLaughlin 4/1
2 Sole Volante (KY) 3/G L L Panici 118 P L Biancone 8/1
3 Albert Park (KY) 3/C L P Morales 118 M Stidham 15/1
4 Independence Hall (KY) 3/C L J L Ortiz 122 M J Trombetta 6/5
5 No Getting Over Me (FL) 3/G L S Camacho 118 G S Bennett 20/1
6 Premier Star (KY) 3/C L J R Velazquez 118 J Navarro 3/1
7 Tiz Rye Time (KY) 3/CL J R Leparoux 118 I R Wilkes 20/1
8 Chapalu (KY) 3/C L D Centeno 122 A Delacour 8/1

Interesting to note that regular rider Rosario travels across country to ride for KPM again.
Independence might go off at odds-on if that's your thing.
8/1 seems like a fair price for Solo Volante to negotiate two turns.

What say you on the road to the Derby?

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Albert Park scratch could make Premier Star the lone speed. If Independence Hall lets PS loose on the lead, it could be game over.

Watch out for Embossed in the Suncoast Stakes. She's won twice going two turns on this track and has yet to be asked for her best. Tough post, but she does not need the lead.

It will interesting to see if Independence Hall's pre-race antics are as bad as last time.

I think IH moved too early, but he should have drawn off. I don’t think he wants to stretch out - he’ll be best at middle distances, I think

Yep thanks. Was 7/1 for most of the warmup, but I guess "they" waited til the last minute to bet and hammer him down to 5/1 paying $13.60.

Computer based wagering takes so much fun out of betting.

Good news for Karakontie!
His second GSW Sole Volante was very impressive.
Interestingly, both are inbred to Miesque.

Independence Hall was beaten fair and square.

I too am happy to see Karakontie sire another graded stakes winner, and on dirt at that.

The rider appeared to have a strong hold on IH until nearing the end of turn-two. Perhaps they should change tactics next out and allow him more rein.

Yes I noticed IH’s head was in a peculiar fixed low position for the first part of the race. Horse did not look comfortable, then seemed to lose focus and momentum down the stretch once he reached the lead. That being said, was no match for the impressive winner today.

FYI....
Patrick Biancone was at the sales........
And his 22 year old daughter needed a birthday present.
While she might've preferred the $20,000 in cash, she got Sole Volante instead!

Looks like she picked up a few new partners along the way, congrats.

As usual, @ShamIAmNot nails it:

Now that Patrick Biancone is on it, the Derby Trail is like many actual trails in that in needs this warning sign

Who is Biancone and what does he have to do with legless reptiles?

Vials of Cobra venom, something that can be used as a potent nerve block, were found in the fridge of his barn several years ago. I believe he claimed he did not know what they were and that his vet had asked him if he could store it there.

He had only 5 graded stakes winners from 2008 though 2018. But he trained All Along, Strawberry Road, Lion Heart, Henny Hughes(at the beginning of his career), Whywhywhy, etc.
