The Portland Meadows list is up on Horse Racing Wrongs, and Memphis Mobster is indeed gone, from a fractured pastern. Rip sweet old horse, wish he could have enjoyed a long retirement.
Awful. Saw him many times at Emerald Downs, very nice horse. RIP Memphis Mobster.

Sorry to hear about Memphis Mobster. He showed up in this thread quite often. The only thing that gives me pause about I'lbeamonkeysuncle is that his misfortune occurred this year, and I think the HRW report covers only the 2018 calendar year. We'll hope for the best though.

How did an Irish-bred Italian G1 winner wind up in $5k claiming races at Turfway? And intact, no less.

Sorry WarBiscuit- I’ve lost track of time and didn’t even pay attention to that having happened this year with I’llbeamonkeysuncle. For some reason I thought that was last year also.

I was wondering if anyone else would notice that. Looks like he was a pretty decent racer in his first few seasons in Italy. Appears that the owner brought him over here expressly to dump him, and the rather alarming drop in price in his first 5 races at Gulfstream prior to being claimed bear that out. Some interesting stories, to be sure, behind some of these old timers...

Our 11yo millionaire friend Slim Shadey makes his 4th start of the year on Saturday (4/6) at Aqueduct in Race 5. 48K claimer, and you can own him for 25K. I'd buy him with my Fed Tax refund, but I'd need another $24,700 to make it work...

Go get 'em Slim!

Old Warrior of the Day: Tobias (Arch—Listen Well, by Secretariat) a 10yo turf specialist who might be the most chill horse I’ve ever seen in the #Keeneland paddock.

Tobias, the 10-year-old gray gelding is so chill, owner/trainer Rafael Fernandez (in the hat) let kids pet him before jockey @sophidoyle got the leg-up in the #Keeneland walking ring. It absolutely made the kid’s day.
Image

Finished last and one might say it's time to hang up the racing shoes, but...look at him having fun.

Short lived retirement. He's entered in Race 1 at Tampa Bay Downs this Saturday (5/4/19). I guess it's just too hard to let a 12yo with 124 starts go out a winner.
A 5K claimer.

Also back from what should have been a permanent rest is 13yo g Casa O. Entered in Race 6 at Turf Paradise on Sunday (5/5/19). 3K claimer.

The owners of 12yo g Frisky Ricky have thrown their hat back into the ring, as well. He makes his 2nd 2019 start in Race 6 along with Casa O. (5/5/19).

11yo h Doublethestyle was a DNF at Parx (4/23/19). "displayed poor action/eased in lane".

10yo g Matou was a DNF at Evangeline Downs (4/17/19). "stopped/eased/walked off".
