Bank of Dad is with me! What a great guy he is! Old Friends has agreed to take him - he will hopefully be moving there after the 24th- thank you, Old Friends, you will be getting a sweet old man. Thank you to the amazing Rose Smith, who's heart knows no bounds when it comes to retiring these wonderful horses, and for Mark and Rachael Maddox for helping out. Rose was also a major help in claiming Lady of Rivendell and Halos and Angels for retirements.

Thanks, Sparrow Castle, for the good news about Small Town! He's been a frequent visitor to this thread for a few years now and deserves a long, healthy and happy retirement. Once again, CTA comes to the rescue and I can check another warrior off the watch list.

Here's a little update on Cryptolight, a horse who I know has been mentioned on the War Horse thread before.

The son of turf champion Fantastic Light and two-time Ohio Horse of the Year and Champion Mare Crypto's Redjet (Cryptoclearance) put together a solid record of 81: 16-16-14 with earnings of $720,059. He won two stakes, and placed in 11. He even set a track record in 2008 for 1 1/16 miles at Presque Isle Downs at 1:43.08. Both Cryptolight and his dam were bred and campaigned by the late Paul R. Gutheil of Ohio.

He was retired and entered stud in 2017, for a fee of $1,500 in Ohio. According to the 2017 JC Report of Mares Bred, he did not get any mares in 2017, and Bloodhorse does not list a fee for him in 2018. I don't know his whereabouts or status as of August 21, 2018, but this is the last thing I was able to find. If anyone has the means to look into it (I don't), I'm sure everyone would appreciate it.

Here's his confirmation photo, complete with a cute fuzzy mane.

I'm pretty sure he's standing at R.C. Cline Thoroughbreds in Orient, Ohio, along with Western Pride. Try e-mailing Bobby Cline Racing for his fee or other info. I know a filly by Cryptolight was delivered on March 2nd...

Oh, really? Maybe they just didn't report the mating to the Jockey Club then. Babies are good news.

Today was Saratoga's NY-bred stakes day and before the featured 1 1/16-mile West Point on turf, one of the connections of 9-year-old Kharafa was interviewed. He sounded very nostalgic, and said that Kharafa was going to be retired at the end of this year and head off to Old Friends. Yep, it sounded like the venerable gelding was on the tail end of his career.
Then Kharafa came charging down the stretch past the leaders, with his head held high, and won the race. :o
Love it.

Wow. A flat racer at 17 - now that's a War horse. A horse half his age over here is beginning to get a bit long in the tooth. He still appears to be in very good shape,
and sounds like quite the character, as well. Oldest horse I remember racing in the states was Behavin Jerry who won a claiming race at 17 (307 starts!) in 1981 and lived into his 30's. And then there was Alpena Magic who they tried to race at 17 at Ellis Park - but was retired instead to become the parks ambassador. (Is he still alive?) Thanks, Starine, for posting this - and happy retirement to Megalala!

He doesn't qualify as being a "War Horse" for his race record, but not sure where else to post this.

Desani's Chance (Leroidesanimaux x Mary Linoa), a 10 year old gelding, broke his maiden today at Arlington. He returned from a seven year layoff in July.

We were watching him closely today to see how he would do. It was hot enough on the track to melt brass doorknobs (to quote Mr. Twain), and some of the horses were showing it. Nice to finally break your maiden at 10, and after a 7 year layoff to boot, but to say that he is lightly raced would be a vast understatement - with 8 total starts! Anyway, good job by Desani's Chance, and anybody still racing at 10 automatically qualifies for a spot in the War Horse Chronicles no matter his race record.

Thanks Mylute for posting this!

Update on Dubai favourite Reynaldothewizard. As expected, he has left Dubai for the (literal ) greener pastures of one of Godolphin's other bases, specifically their Retraining Division in the UK.

I loved reading this too. Loved his trainer speaking so fondly of him or giving him nearly al the credit for being so easy to train. I think he’s being modest, anyone who has a horse racing at 17 (or heck even competing at the highest level in equestrian sports) is one hell of a horseman.

CYPRESS, Calif. – Soi Phet finished sixth in Saturday’s $75,000 E.B. Johnston Stakes at Los Alamitos in what may have been the final start for the popular 10-year-old gelding.

Trainer Leonard Powell said on Sunday that Soi Phet will be turned out for the rest of the year. A decision on whether Soi Phet races in 2019 will depend on how he trains next spring.

Regarding a potential retirement, Powell said, “There is a possibility.”

“We’ll see if he wants to do it,” Powell said. “He’ll go on vacation. That was his last race of the year.”

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.
