Coolmore also gives some good one word names to their mares sometimes. Up, Was, Twirl, Minding, Winter, Tapestry, Soon, etc.

Godolphin Australia has the best one word names. If you don't mind going down a bit of a rabbit hole, their website has all of their horses in training listed, and whoever is in charge of the Aussie names is really killing it.
Godolphin and Coolmore kill it about 95% of the time, same with Caliborne.
Can't agree with you on Coolmore. While their names are "classy" enough, they are, overall, very generic and you can usually tell what was the theme for the year. If you are breeding and buying so many horses, you can't be bothered to think about them individually when naming, you are probably breeding too many horses.

My pet peeve is when a horse is named after two of the owners grandkids, like "Brianna and Logan".....

If breeding too many horses results in winning 20+ Group One winners every year for the last 10 years, winning two Arcs, 10 Guineas, 7 Derbies, etc., then that seems like the winning formula. They breed and purchase a fraction of the horses Godolphin does, and I’d say breed fewer than even Juddmonte. Mrs. Magnier just has a simple and predictable style, though I guess it isn’t for everyone.

I'd rather simple and practical than some of these names. Are they, less than inspiring, yea but they are better than many of the names out there and they at least sound good in a list of winners.

But each to their own, if you like more unique names, more power to you. I like the unique ones too but there is a lot of horses and only so many names.

Cheeseburger ran at Ellis (IIRC) today.

There are some foods that just don't make good names.

Snow Cone? Yes. Chocolate Martini? Awesome. But Cheeseburger? Ugh.

I don't find Kitten's Joy feminine at all. What's feminine about a baby cat? I know the horse is named for Ramsey's wife, but 90% of the people who have heard the horse's name don't know that. Even then, I don't really find it that feminine, since the name is possessive, not something like "Fluffy Kitten" or "Runaway Kitten".

Fast Anna, however, has always been low on my list of favourites. I'm assuming that the horse was named after/for a friend or family member.

Fast Anna's dam is named Dreaming of Anna, so when I first heard of his name I assumed he was named for his mother.

There is a Hard Spun 3yo colt named Hard Belle. The name made me scratch my head. "Belle" is definitely feminine. Maybe they were going for Hard Beauty, but it didn't work. He's a speed demon and was in some of the spring prep races. Poor thing was badly managed. New connections now and I hope he will have a chance to be better placed. He did win a race this summer and just finished second in an allowance. If they keep him going short, he should have a chance at a decent career. He does like to run. Only one gear, though.

Covfefe has become such a good racehorse that her name may end up being remembered more for what she's done on the track than for that WTF Tweet. :P
