saw a post on instagram abt a mare who was left behind at the 1965 Tattersalls december sale, at Park Paddocks. the note only said they couldn't identify her since DNA testing wasn't a thing yet (obviously), but offered no other info.

has anyone else heard about this? anyone know more? i tried googling it but didn't see anything that gave any answers,

I saw that yesterday as well.

Strange indeed. I mean, when you enter a horse in a sale you have to provide their information/identification do you not? Their pedigree, age, foaling date, color, breeder, current owner, etc. How does a mare, or any horse, just get forgotten? Did the person who entered her into the sale not think it weird when they didn't have their mare but no money in her place?

I know '65 was a different day but...

Silver Survivor was forgotten at the OBS 2yo sale and survived on his bedding for 13 days.

And then became a damn-good horse. Wow.

I first read that name as Silent Survivor, lol. Would have been more appropriate.

i'd never heard of him until now, that's insane. not sure how you can forget an entire horse (though i guess some callous ppl wouldn't be against leaving a horse that didn't sell that they don't want)

I just vaguely remember the horse myself. What I hadn't remembered was he died shortly after retiring and only got one small crop. I also didn't realize how much he raced. A age four, he raced 4 times in June and 24 times that year.
