So sorry, RG. He was a lovely horse, and it sounds like he was cherished.

Doesn't get any more despicable than that. RIP indeed for that poor animal.

The wonderful, tough and consistent campaigner Houblon Des Obeaux (FR) collapsed fatally from an internal bleed at Sandown yesterday. As with a lot of British racing fans, I’ve followed him for years and jump racing won’t be the same without him.

It’s Jennifer (FR) was also lost at Aintree, her first start in the UK.

Three-time G1 winner and dual-purpose stallion Notnowcato (Inchinor) dies at 17. He apparently passed last spring of a heart attack while covering a mare. It was unexpected as he apparently showed no signs of illness beforehand. He is notably the sire of Aussie G1 winner Redkirk Warrior (aka Redkirk).

is 2019 trying to meet some secret quota? this is the exact opposite of what we want, especially during a time that's supposed to be happy.

i hope the fond memories will help the connections still enjoy their holidays.

Two horses died in Los Al's first race today.

Mighty Elijah (Ultimate Eagle) pulled up in the stretch and was discovered to have fractured a sesamoid in his left foreleg. He's half to Kate's Event.

Into a Hot Spot (Into Mischief) finished the race but collapsed while being unsaddled. He suffered an internal injury. He finished fifth. His third dam is Mother, the dam of Commanding Curve and Mother Mother.

Macca Tree (Jersey Town-Soul Title, by Perfect Soul) "suffered a catastrophic injury and was euthanized" per Equibase in today's fourth at sloppy Mahoning Valley while on the lead in midstretch. Very ugly-looking and the track announcer gasped and groaned audibly during the call. The jock jumped off safely. This 3-year-old had four trainers in his very brief career of 10 races in six months, which started with a victory at Woodbine in June and included a couple of races for Anthony Quartarolo at Saratoga this summer. He would have been in yet another barn had he finished this race, as Jay Bernardini put in a claim for him.

What a shame. Feel bad for the horse - never knew what a home was in his brief racing career.

RIP Macca Tree, and indeed to all who perished in this miserable week.

So much promise. Very sad to hear. :-(
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Shame. I wonder if it was caused by her being sick for so long. They had already announced her probable retirement at the end of September because she had been sick for so long with pneumonia. Or if she is just super unlucky.
