Flatterer, steeplechase legend and oldest living Eclipse winner, has been euthanized at age 35. Here's a lovely tribute: http://thisishorseracing.com/news/index ... 48.twitter

What a wonderful, long, loved life he lived. They thought so much of him and his pasture mate that both were put down, because of their advancing ages, as to not pine for one another. R. I. P.

Thanks for putting up that story!! I'd heard of Flatterer, but had no idea about who he really was. And what wonderful people he was connected to. My favorite part was the comment that: "Flatterer the retiree brought as much joy as Flatterer the racehorse." Lucky horse and a wonderful life!

As hard a decision as it is, sometimes it is best to put two of them down at once, especially inseperable friends...the same thing happened to my two old lesson horses i used to ride (at 36 and 31, on a crisp October day, they were euthanized together in the field).

And as far as I know, all the horses in the first "Old Friends" book by Barbara Livingston have now passed on. *sigh* Rest in peace, all of them.

I was very lucky to see Flatterer in 2007. He was an aloof sort of horse and it took some encouragement to get him to cooperate for the Mid-Atlantic photo shoot. He lived the life every horse should live. He was loved and the pride of his owner.

It's wonderful when Thoroughbred's are lucky enough to make it into their 30's. They don't make them like they used to which contributes a lot to it.

Uggh first start. SS isn't having the best luck with her horses this year. Hope things get better for her.

She had complications in 2013 and lost that foal, also by Bernardini. So they breed her right back and shuttle her very pregnant? Great care she received it sounds like....SMH.
