California breeding has been hit really hard this year....Bertrando and Tribal Rule gone, Benchmark pensioned. I hope Unusual Heat stays healthy and that his son, Acclamation, flourishes. And, California Chrome may be showing that Lucky Pulpit is going to be a really good son of the late Pulpit.

Ballena Vista Farm went from 5 stallions to 3 in a week - such a huge loss for them and CA breeding...

my heart goes out to eventer Marilyn Little on her loss of her mount Smoke on the Water.Marilyn and "Smoke" finished fifth at Rolex Kentucky last weekend, only to have to euthanize Smoke a couple days later when he sustained an unidentifed injury after becoming cast in his stall.

I read that too and it's such a sad story, could happen to any horse, and hits harder when the horse accomplished soo much, soo recent too!

Absolutely heartbreaking news about Smoke on the Water. He was something else to watch. RIP Smoke.

Heartbreaking on both Smoke on the Water and Aussi Austin. Taylor Rice should have gotten days for cantering the obviously lame horse back to the winner's circle.

The ONLY reason he went to Cornell was the bad press surrounding Jacobsen. I called it in my post the day Aussi Austin was injured.

Jacobsen NEVER sends a horse for surgery. Jacobsen is the owner of most horses he races or DAS made of of "50 owners" who have no say for the $500 ownership. The deal wirh Jacobsen is he pays all the bills and the "owners" get some % of the purses AFTER TRAINING EXPENSE, BOARD, STABLE ETC. ARE PAID. Some racket Jacobsen has...and NYRA looks the other way because Jacobsen fills those crappy claiming races with his stable cripples.

I've been hearing whispers that all is not well between DJ and DAS. Have you picked up anything on that?

Wasn't there some mention not too long ago about DAS reducing the number of horses?

Not a TB, but the great Moni Maker has passed while recovering from colic surgery at New Bolton. She was 21, one of the best harness mares ever- and survived a barn collapse a few years back. Her last foal is being carried via another mare from embryo transplant. May she R. I. P.
