Such dreadful news and so much of coming in less than two weeks of the New Year.

I am so happy I was able to see Sunshine Forever in 2007. Here he is... one final time.

I sure hope this isn't related to the cold spell. It definitely is a hard start to the new year.

Laughing will be missed by many. This is a picture of her before the 2013 Filly & Mare Turf.

Just learned via Jeannie Mirabito's FB page that Myrna Vandenberg died unexpectedly on Jan. 2. She was a relentless advocate for horses, dogs and, well, all animals in need. She was also, according to Jeanne, deeply involved in the efforts to bring Sunshine Forever home, and instrumental in the result, simply refusing to let negotiations lag.

R.I.P., Myrna. You will be sorely missed.

It is tempting to imagine that Sunshine Forever decided it was time...so that his friend Myrna could ride him over the Rainbow Bridge, to gallop together across the Heavenly Green Land.

Are they thinking that these old horses froze to death? Were they ill? Not eating or drinking?

He was 29! It was probably his heart.

They are talking about the weather in regards to colic (and Laughing).

Horrible, and that site is a hard pill to swallow- forced myself to read some of it- but had to leave. I realize there are some horrible things going on, but there are some good people as well.

that site kinda rubs me the wrong way. seems more like a PETA activist type site. glad the mare is out of pain, though. took way too long for this and it's a horrible way to go, but she's def in a better place.

With an absolutely broken heart, I am reporting that El Vino has been euthanized today.

Zenyatta's famous workmate, he suffered a severe leg injury in his paddock. He was just retired sound.

Aw crap.
Too many losses lately, and so many of them seem really unfair. Young (Laughing), retired sound (El Vino), well-loved & sound racehorse (Caixa Electronica), valuable stallions with the best of care (Summer Bird, Silver Train)...fate can be so capricious and unkind. :(

I was thinking the same thing and that, in so many ways, they are so darn fragile...

LAT, do you have a good source on that? I've seen it on Twitter, but not from anyone I personally know to be reliable. Not questioning you -- just need some assurance.

The trainer and owner to be publicly named and shamed.
