Sad, because I think he was the last of the great Weekend Surprise's sons standing at stud. Geez, she was an incredible producer...I think I would be more excited about seeing her name in a pedigree than any stallion.
From the Bloodhorse article:
"An exceptionally well bred horse, Tiger Ridge was a son of leading sire Storm Cat and produced from Broodmare of the Year Weekend Surprise, making him a half brother to classic winners A.P. Indy (Belmont Stakes, gr. I) and Summer Squall (Preakness Stakes, gr. I). A.P. Indy, Summer Squall, and Honor Grades, another half brother to Tiger Ridge, were all successful stallions."

Various reports that Pedro has cracked vertebrae (5, 6) and is still undergoing tests.

Two horses in the same race at Southwell today :(

Kellys Eye (IRE) anticipated the start, hit his head and fell becoming trapped as the stalls opened

Maakirr (IRE) brokedown when in contention in the straight.

It was awful, one of the worst incidents I've seen for a while. He was in stall 1 as well so was wedged down near the wheels of the gate.

You won't believe it, but Equitania (GB) just died at Southwell after doing exactly the same thing....

From Racing Post results - "Stumbled and unseated rider as stalls opened, ran loose and smashed into stalls, fatally injured"

Please doublecheck, but it looks to me like both Kellys Eyes and Equitania started from the 6 hole. In which case there may be something wrong with the gate.

Just checked, Kellys Eye was #6 and started in stall 1 and Equitania was also #6 but started in stall 7...

Latest is that Equitania may have got her legs through the reins after unseating causing her to panic and run back into the gate, the gate crew were trying their best to stop her from hurting herself either way.

So, not the same stall. Still, very weird, two instances at the same track, and so close together in time.

Yes very strange! It works a bit differently here in the fact you have a number on your saddle cloth but then you have a different draw to determine which number gate you're in :)

Thanks, learned something new. We also sometimes have a difference between the number on the saddle cloth and the gate number, but I don't know whether that also comes from a different draw or what.

So hope it's just a very unfortunate coincidence...

The filly who was found starving and frozen to the ground in Utah did not make it. Her dam is continuing to recover at the rescue, but I suspect the damage done to the filly's organs by her ordeal was too much for her to overcome. Kudos to her rescuers for trying...at least her last weeks were spent with loving folks taking good care of her.

I seem to recall multiple accidents in races 9 and 10 at Gulfstream yesterday...any more recent news on those?

Jocks reported okay, but horses?
