13yo m Worthy of Wings, who raced 138 times, survived 2 Hurricanes in Puerto Rico and was retired from the track this year, has been offered a new home in Ohio with Mr. Kyle Rothfus of OTTB Training. Retired Racehorse Project Makeover has agreed to adopt and retrain her and funds are needed for her USDA quarantine. If you can help, please visit her at Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare on facebook!

13yo g Concertos Song has returned to Florida after his racing stint in PR (126 races), and is available for adoption (see RVR Horse Rescue).

Can't count the times that these two old souls were mentioned in this thread - both deserve a long, healthy and happy retirement. Some older hurricane victims did not fare as well...

Current situation at @CaribbeanOTTB farm in Rio Grande, PR. All the 🌧💦☔️from the endless tropical storms are wreaking havoc on CTA farm paddocks. The horses, normally out much of the day, are having to be stalled for periods to allow their feet and coats to dry😕😖

Memphis Mobster by Memo, 11 year old gelding, longtime stalwart at Emerald Downs and Portland Meadows did not finish his race yesterday at Portland Meadows. I just watched his race on TVG from my DVR recording. He was pulled up early and it didn't look good. His record stands at 80-21-12-7 with $166,838 earned. There was a year gap in his race/workout schedule between Aug 2017 and July 2018 and I thought he'd been retired. Sometimes it's just one race too many. He loved to run, I hope he's running still.

Good luck to 10yo SLIM SHADY going for a major piece of the $125,000 pie in Gulfstreams 10th today, safe trip.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Well, Slim Shadey came in 11th at the Claiming Crown Convention, and picked up his share of the $125,000 pot - $1,250.00. Didn't do much to sweeten the millionaires bank account.

Recent Winner: Anyone remember this guy?! He ran with the big dogs once upon a time -

On the subject of warhorses, I saw this little article today.
Diving into the durability of a Standardbred
It is without question, that when comparing the standardbred breed to others like thoroughbreds, standardbreds are the most durable breed in the world. In addition, standardbreds are able to transition to a multitude of other careers post-racing. Whether they become pasture pets, broodmares, breeding studs, riding horses, show horses, war re-enactment horses, police horses or therapy horses (to name a few), there are very few animals, let alone breeds of horses with the durability, versatility and demeanors to do what the standardbred does each and every year of their lives.

There is much talk about the negatives of racing and those that believe racing should end sooner than later. But those that believe racing is all bad have certainly not experienced all that the standardbred has to offer. The love they give, their personalities and their willingness and desire to please are all unmatched. And those that take care of our horses, what about all they give? Their love, care, time, attention. Harness horsemen and women put everything in that the horses give out and then some, 365 days a year. It is a tit for tat situation. One that is unsurpassed by any other sport, industry or relationship that comes to mind.
More here http://ustrottingnews.com/diving-into-t ... ndardbred/
Rosecraft's card Sunday night featured 19 horses with 200+ career starts, 7 with 300+, including the venerable 14yo iron horse Foiled Again. Foiled Again won his race and his record now stands at 328-107-70-46 with over $7.6 million in earnings. The next stop in his farewell tour will be Harrah's Philadelphia on the 9th, followed by Mohawk Park on the 22nd and finally The Meadows on New Year's Eve.

Been awhile since this guy has been in the top three here. Career: 116 starts, 16-11-12, $188,666.

Meet the war horse Tyler’s Wildcat! This 11yo guy raced an astounding 116 times. His trainer is extremely fond of Tyler and wanted to make sure he goes to a good home. We see why he’s so fond. Tayja thinks he may be the most gentle TB she’s ever been around, and his manners are so impeccable that he won’t walk out of an open stall without a halter on!

(He nicked his LF on the van ride from LA and stocked up as a result but it’s healing quick)

Thanks for the report Sparrow Castle! Been watching him closely for the past year as he has struggled a bit. Glad that he is safe, and yes, what a polite young man!

Very happy to report that we'll have a nice long list of healthy, happy and sound retirees to post here at the end of the year. I've noticed that a number of 12 and 13 year olds are getting their last races in this month before the clock strikes midnight on December 31st - effectively banning most from many tracks at that point.
Good luck to all of them.

Foiled Again Farewell Tour update: Three weeks away from mandatory retirement, the legend earned a gutsy win #108 today, this time at Harrah's Philadelphia.
http://ustrottingnews.com/foiled-again-earns-108th-win/
“There’s tears every time I get to sit behind him, and it gets harder every time,” said an emotional Gingras after the win over the same racetrack Foiled Again made a name for himself in 2008 with 10 wins, eight of them against open competition.

Mr Epic (NZ) 10yo by Falkirk (Tale Of The Cat) out of Marzeri by Marju won his 8th race from 92 starts in Malaysia on Saturday. Malaysia often has the castoffs from Hong Kong and Singapore so quite normal to have older horses win there.

Replay of the race can be found here. Won quite well actually
