He is regally bred, but $35,000 for a stallion with his only G1 win coming on turf as a two year old? I guess it's still cheaper than Justify.
I think O'Brien is a genius trainer, but I wonder how Mendelssohn would have done with a few months off and a switch to an American trainer.

That's interesting. I wonder why the fee is private? This is a CA stud farm I haven't visited, but I think they have been standing Winning Cause for a year or so. I'll look it up tomorrow.

I feel like for a G3W in Chile standing in California (full brother to a G1 winner he may be) his fee is probably next to nothing, possibly nothing for the right mare.Sparrow Castle wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 2:00 amThat's interesting. I've found most of the farms out here will negotiate a next to nothing fee, especially for new stallions. We've been offered a "no fee" too for a new stallion, but we had a connection to the farm and they knew the mare. Some of these fees aren't that high to start with. Dosificado's fee is advertised at $3,000, same as for Circumference (IRE) by Galileo. The only higher fee is for Smart Bid at $3,500.Northport wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 10:06 pmI feel like for a G3W in Chile standing in California (full brother to a G1 winner he may be) his fee is probably next to nothing, possibly nothing for the right mare.Sparrow Castle wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 2:00 amThat's interesting. The fee was updated to $3,000 from Private on the Stallion Register site since yesterday!Sparrow Castle wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 11:53 pmI've found most of the farms out here will negotiate a next to nothing fee, especially for new stallions. Ah, got it. Glad I waited until tonight to look up the farm's horses. Milky Way has quite the mix of different types of studs.mariasmon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 11:57 pmThe fee was updated to $3,000 from Private on the Stallion Register site since yesterday!Sparrow Castle wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 11:53 pmI've found most of the farms out here will negotiate a next to nothing fee, especially for new stallions. Unfortunately, the farm doesn't seem to have a website or much (if any) social media presence. I'd only heard of it because I followed Winning Cause when he was running. I did finally locate his conformation pic in the CTBA Stallion Directory. It's clearly not professional, but I guess that's not surprising.Sparrow Castle wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 12:07 amAh, got it. They really don't do much online, surprising for a stud farm that needs to attract business from all over the western states. I've found the same with other farms out here too, and lots have outdated websites.mariasmon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 12:19 amUnfortunately, the farm doesn't seem to have a website or much (if any) social media presence. I find the CTBA Stallion Directory difficult to use, so I just go straight to the Bloodhorse Stallion Directory and do a Search on Farms to see which horses they stand and their fees. We like to combine our trips to BC with farm visits when it's at Santa Anita. Maybe we'll try a visit to Milky Way next year, if I can find their contact info, lol. Even that info, they don't have on the Stallion page.
I always liked Winning Cause too, beautiful pedigree, and took note of where he went to stud. Thanks for the picture.
