Kentucky Wildcat is the first foal of one of my most favorite mares, Better Lucky. Her entire female family has come through clutch for me at big odds many times. I am hoping for better than 9/2 to the streak continues.

From Jay Hovdey-DRF

One of the glaring holes in the Kentucky Derby eligibility system is on full display this weekend when the Sam Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay on Saturday affords ambitious 3-year-olds a chance to earn 17 points toward Derby participation, while the San Vicente Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita offers zero.

The difference, if a face-value explanation is worth anything, comes down to the distance of each race. The Grade 3 Sam Davis, first run in 1981, is at a mile and one-sixteenth. The Grade 2 San Vicente, sorry to say, has been a seven-furlong race since 1955.

It makes sense that two-turn races should carry more weight in the Kentucky Derby debate as the first Saturday in May approaches. However, to eliminate every graded race at less than one-mile – as the points system has done – is to meddle in the actual management of potential classic runners and to play havoc with the stakes programs of major tracks. Owners and trainers end up spending races in a quest for points rather than in what they might decide is a more sensible progression of steps toward Churchill Downs and beyond. As a result, an historically significant event like the San Vicente becomes marginalized.

Synthesis, Kent Desormeaux, 6-1;
Coliseum, Mike Smith, 6-5;
Dessman, Flavien Prat, 5-2;
Sparky Ville, Joel Rosario, 4-1;
Savagery, Heriberto Figueroa, 4-1.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Which ones did you find to be a good enough price to bet on, I hope not Coliseum?

I did the first and the sire pool. Missed this one, tho, darn it.

Anybody else doing the WinStar Fantasy Derby? I came close in the free section last year (7th); this year I'm at about the same place I was this time last year, including that I've already lost one (Kentucky Wildcat; last year it was Mourinho).

My two past futures were Pioneer of the Nile (not bad considering I made the bet the December prior) and some unknown horse that never made the gate.
The End.

I had Sunday Silence at 50/1 in 1989 the one and only Derby I attended live.
Been trying to recreate history ever since :lol:

Going from the 11 hole in the LeCompte Stakes to the rail post today has to be worth something, I'll try Plus Que Parfait today. 10/1 looks juicy.

I know it translates as "More Than Perfect," but it also brings back memories of learning French grammar! The plusque parfait is a verb tense--IIRC, the one that corresponds to "I had visited, I had seen," etc. 8-)
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Way back when there was a horse that ran in so. CA—he was pretty good on the turf, if memory serves—named El Rojo Diablo or in English, The Devil Red.
