Probably deserving of his own thread until all this gets resolved somehow.

I've seen the bits & pieces on here, but what's the full story on what's happening?

All gleaned from twitter, but it seems after he posted about the 2YOs colliding (none injured, tweet has been deleted) on the training track after the main track was shut down (last week I think it was on the 6th?), he has been silenced. By Bloodhorse? By Santa Anita? Not sure. The Ritvo quotes seemed to allude to TSG almost blaming Balan for reporting and bringing in the mainstream media.

Balan did retweet a BH article yesterday about the Rebel being split (which was the first time sinice 3/7), but has not posted on his account as "himself" since 3/6.

Anybody know if he's allowed on track?

Sure do hope that somebody can post both sides of the story here.

So the bad guy is....

A). Santa Anita for trying the whole censorship thing.

B) Bloodhorse for not standing up for their employee?

C) Jeremy for breaking some rules that he'd been counselled about in the past?

Yeah. Is this what Jesus had in mind in John 8:32?

Absolutely garbage.

He should get a lawyer. So not right. Agree with Som’s comments 100 %. No ramifications for Haskin at all.

There's no way he could have known what she was really up to when he posted the first glowing review a while back, but he really should've had to post a better apology than that (it honestly wasn't even an apology).

I wanna see an apology for his not apologizing and then deleting the post when everyone called him out on it, and then running away on twitter.

Glad he's taking his followers with him. Jeremy won an 2018 Eclipse for in-depth reporting on the SLR fires, works harder than any reporter out there. Hope he gets picked up by a publication worthy of him. And I'm not going to renew my BH subscription anymore. Rarely have time to read the magazines anyway.

Sunday is my last day at BloodHorse. If you know anyone who might be able to use an award-winning turf writer, sports writer, or news reporter, please let me know.

Sorry if the new handle is confusing. I so much appreciate the support from everyone who has reached out. It means a lot to me.

Everybody in the public comment section seems to be in favor of Jeremy,
not saying that's the wrong place to be
but is there anybody representing SA or BH with an opinion on the issue?

That seems to be a huge part of the problem: neither SA nor the Bloodhorse want to say anything. They'd rather pretend that the issues (breakdowns, accidents, reporters getting fired, etc) don't exist.

The Washington Post comes to mind as someone who stands up for their people and likes to have first rate reporting... (If maybe someone can pass that thought along, as I don't do twitter.)

You can view twitter without having an account.

And I can't just automatically take Jeremy's side in all this until we hear a little bit more of the why, as always there's two or three sides to every story. Even he hasn't said he was innocent, hmmm?

stark.... not sure if you heard the Thoroughbred Los Angeles radio show this morning. it was outstanding. Jay Privman and Brad Free from DRF both having the guts to speak out about things happening at santa anita. I applaud them for their comments. they both came to the defense of Balan. and they talked about other issues at santa anita. pretty sure their show is archived if anyone wants to listen. Jay Privman also went off on santa anita mgmt. in last weeks radio show. I loved every minute of it. kudos to both of them!!

Thanks LG, I'll give it a listen.

But as previously mentioned, with PETA winning the battle I'm working on my Saturday golf game for the first time in years.

Very good to hear these comments about Jeremy on the Thoroughbred Los Angeles radio show:
  • Jeremy Balan covered racing like a major league sport not a cheerleader.
Some people feel reporting racing honestly should not be allowed.
IMHO lack of transparency in horse racing is not going to fly in our current culture, any more than whipping horses perceived as abuse and breakdowns perceived as avoidable. Twitter, Facebook, etc. makes it so that anyone anywhere can be a "news" reporter instantly. It makes it way too easy to get misinformation, as well as good information, to the "masses." If those in power (specifically TSG and CHRB by default here) continue to stifle actual reporting, and hide their dirt behind smokescreens, racing doesn't have much of a future.

Yes, I think it's time to shift power from track owners and 38 state racing commissions to a more powerful central regulating body with various responsibilities, including fact-based promotion of the Industry and data and research-based decision making. The Jockey Club might be able to assume this role, as the controller of the registry, but I've seen no willingness on their part to do so.

And let's not overlook that the JC is co-owner of Bloodhorse.
