The Vosburgh, Chandelier, Santa Anita Oaks, and Santa Anita Sprint Championship have been downgraded to G2.

No races were upgraded to G1.

The Santa Anita Oaks makes no sense to me. Just in the last decade the winners include: Stellar Wind, Songbird, Midnight Bisou.

Idk how highly they’re regarded, but Paradise Woods and Bellafina won in the last three years. Before this decade includes Beholder and Rags to Riches.

It's about also rans as much if not more than winners.

Not saying I agree. It's the system ( which I also have issues with ).

Of all the things to be concerned about in horse racing, personally I find this issue to be pretty far down on the list.

Not even sure it matters to the breeding industry as much as it once did.
Not sure it matters much at all to the bettors.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Racing would be better off ending the grading completely. It had its place back in the day, but now it is pretty easy to follow the top races across the world, so you get a good idea of what level horses are at, and if racehorses couldn't luck into a Grade 1 win or placing, they would have to prove themselves over and over again and against the best of the generation to earn their breeding spot and price.
