Japanese war horse Sakura Shiny (Sakura President) went out a winner on New Year's Day at Kochi Racecourse. The 14 y/o led gate-to-wire and the not-gelding hang up the tack with a record of 76: 22-8-6, with earnings surpassing 100 million yen. He won several low-level stakes and placed in a few listed ones.

Apparently his last race was a "semi-graded race." Hopefully Tachyon will see this and explain what the race was better.

Glad to see Bim Bam made it to retirement, graded stakes placed, and faced the likes of Jackson Bend and Paddy O'Prado over the course of his very long career.

Not-gelding, eh? Will he be standing at stud anywhere?

I doubt it. The owner is enamored with him though so I guess it's not Improbable they would give him a mare or two.

I'm not shocked that a Japanese horse, even a 14yo, is still intact. They don't seem to geld many horses, even ones who are frelling dangerous on the track.

Nice to see Khan of Khans retired. He hasn't raced since 2018 and I was fearing that he'd meet the same fate as his old Suffolk/Finger Lakes buddy Grady did -- breaking down in one of those Mass-bred races Finger Lakes runs.

Khan went out a winner in his last race at Suffolk in the summer of 2018, although I see in his Equibase chart that he was later stripped of the win and the purse money for a medication infraction.

Yeah, too bad about the DQ in that final run, but still goes out a winner in my book. Tough and talented horse - over 100 starts and hit the board in half of them.
Happy and long retirement to Khan of Khans !

Warhorse RESERVADO... Kelley sent me this today @CaribbeanOTTB farm. His first turnout as an OTTB at age 13 after 105-starts! He’s much calmer today😀 This handsome boy survived 100+ races, Hurricane Maria, earthquakes. He’ll be looking for a good home after some R&R

I like the sire's name, Slewlessinseattle.

Apparently Reservado is his only foal, as he died shortly after entering stud in Puerto Rico. Unraced Slewlessinseattle is a full to Chief Seattle.

I wonder what's up with that claim of 11-y-o Jonny's Choice. Owner/trainer Beverly J. Hamilton put in the claim at Turf Paradise about a week ago, yet Equibase shows her last sending out a starter in 2018 at Portland Meadows. Strange that she'd be claiming such a horse to restart her racing career. Maybe claiming to retire?

Fun fact: That TuP race was written for 9-year-olds and up! They used to run those at old Lincoln Downs in Rhode Island in the '70s.

I didn't catch that about Beverly Hamilton - thanks for pointing that out. Considering her current training status, one of my first guesses would be that he was claimed for retirement. Have to keep an eye out for his future works and entries.

A race for 9yo's and up - gotta love it! Seems as though TP is one of those tracks that is always loaded with senior runners ready to roll...
